Staggered Wheel Sizes - With Same Sized Tires?
I am looking for a second set of 17" wheels for my 2009 C230 for summer use. I have the sports package with the following wheels:
> 2009 Mercedes Benz C230 4MATIC
> FRONT WHEEL/TIRE: 7.5 J x 17 ET 47 225/45R17
> REAR WHEEL /TIRE: 8.5 J x 17 ET 58 245/40R17
> BOLT PATTERN: 5 x 112
I was told that you do not have to get a staggered set of wheels/rims to fit the staggered tires (per the sizes shown above), as you can mount both sizes of tire (225 & 245) on an 8" wide wheel. Can anyone please tell me if this is in fact the case, or even recommended?
I have been looking at the Mandrus Mannheim Wheels in Gunmetal in 17's, but according to the website they only come in a 17" x 8", whereas my current set-up is 7.5" x 17" & 8.5" x 17".
Has anyone actually mounted the same size tires on a staggered set of rims? If so, does it look funny? Does it affect ride, etc?
I'm a novice here, so any expert advice would be sincerely appreciated. Everyone seems to have a different opinion. For sure, trying to find staggered 17's is not easy....
Thanks.
All of these tire sizes are made to work with wheel widths that vary by at least 1.5" - so don't sweat the small differences involved in this case, either front or rear.
[For confirmation, go to TireRack's web site and look up the specs for the two sizes of tires in this case - you'll see the allowable rim widths, and 8" falls within the range of both sizes, as noted in the post above.]
