Maintenance cost question...

...Let me get a few things out of the way at the beginning:

- I don't have my C 300 yet, so I can't look this up in the owner's manual.
- I don't do my own maintenance - please don't tell me about the benefits - I understand them, but don't have the time or place to do that.
- I don't have an independent tech handy, but I'll use the warranty period to look for one
- I generally drive 25k miles a year

With that out of the way, here are my questions

What scheduled maintenances are required in the first 50k miles? What are the approximate costs in a major metropolitan area?

Is the maintenance plan ($1800) worth it?

What? no responses? Maybe I need to modify the question....

...... I wanna know like Yo! can I add those 10k fake xenon lights that peeps sell on ebay for $20? How can I make them look more purple, Yo?

What do I need to drop my ride to the weeds/ I wanna scrape manhole covers - who cares about the ride.

Then I wanna get some chromed rimzzzz - maybe some double dubs. Can I stretch 195s to fit on the 12 inch rimzzz?

Maybe that'll get a response - but I really only want my maintenance question answered.

scheduled maintenance is every 13K miles or 1yr, whichever comes first. Service A and B alternate. Service A is typically around $250 and Service B is around $450. You can substitute some of the service intervals with a simple oil change at the dealership, which should run about $100.

...so at 13k there is service A at $250
26k is service B at $450
39k is another A at $250
The next service would be another B at 52k for $450

Accordingly, it looks like even if you did the 52k service at 50k, you're looking at costs in the vicinity of $1400 - is that right???

Thanks! Now about those xenons...

actually on models after 2008, that is 2009 and onward, maitenance is now every 10K, not 13K.

So you are looking at:
10K - $250
20K - $450
30K - $250
40K - $450
50K - $250

oh is it?! That's BS! I have the same engine and drivetrain. Interesting.

Anyway, you can honestly substitute all of those Service-A's with normal oil changes IMO. I go over what's normally checked and check those fludids/items myself.

Most of the Service-B's can be done by yourself (after an oil change) too. Wipers, air filters, etc etc. Simple stuff.

...lists for about $2200 (4yr 50k) and includes all scheduled maintenance. The online dealer sells it for $1775.

It appears that it is actually much cheaper to pay for services individually (especially if you just do the oil change on the A's and the checks yourself.) I have an email in to the dealer now requesting pricing for the A and B services - I'll post DC prices as soon as I get a response.

The local dealer just came back with a quote....

...of $350 for an A service and $550 for a B (each is $100 more than the previously posted price) so DC is a ridiculously expensive area.

Accordingly, for DC, the dealer costs are:

10K - $350
20K - $550
30K - $350
40K - $550
50K - $350

for a total of $2200 - which, be sheer coincidence of course, just happens to be the MSRP price of the maintenance plan.

OTOH, an oil change with fake oil (synthetic) is $89 at the same dealer (plus tax) so one could theoretically save $250 per A service.

There is the convenience of driving to the dealer, saying "my car needs an A service" and driving out with a loaner.

Oddly enough, the BMW maintenance plan extends the factory 4/50 to 5/100 and costs $1790 - but includes brakes and wiper blades (I'm really glad they include wiper blades - I'm not sure I could afford the $25 every half year...) and there will be at least one brake change within the 100k miles - no matter how careful the driver.

Accordingly, it looks like a MB will cost about $3600 more than BMW over the first 100k of ownership assuming all servicing is done by the dealership ($2200 x2 + $1000 for brakes minus $1800 for the BMW extended plan) - not a negative comment, just a slightly off-topic observation...

At what point do you typically get the brake job? I don't mind the basic service stuff--its the wear components that BMW's plan makes a difference IMHO.

Canadian Service Pricing in Greater Toronto Area

Service A - 20,000 KMS - $CAD 350 incl taxes
Service B - 40,000 KMS - $CAD 650 incl taxes

YES..we pay more cause we are sucker

That was damned good, using some of the alternate language often seen on this forum.

Am I missing something here? $100 for an oil change is a hell of a deal and even more so with a loaner. It costs nearly that much to buy the filter and Mobil 1 European Formula yourself!

+1 - there is no return whatsoever getting the dealer services.

Not so. No more than $50-60 doing it yourself. Buy the very same filters in the aftermarket and buy Mobil 1 when it's on sale. I recently bought 20 quarts of 0W40 for $5.30 each.

45 minutes work.
