gets me from point A-B
IMHO, if you only drive a vehicle to get from point "A" to "B", and you NEVER have the desire to accelerate fast or do performance driving, and you are on a VERY STRICT budget, then the C300 should be enough for you.
But if you like to have "fun" while you drive your vehicle, and from time-to-time you have a desire to accelerate fast or do performance driving, and can spare and extra $2,000, I HIGHLY SUGGEST you get the C350. Honestly, you will be surprised how much difference there is between the two cars performance-wise.

E350
IMHO, if you have the extra cash, I'd take the C350 over the C300. It has a sportier, stiffer feel, the engine is more powerful (which is easily noticeable in the acceleration), and IMO performs better when it needs to... easily worth the extra $2,000.
If you don't need an automatic, then you can take C300Sport's advice and get a manual and save some money (depending on what features you're OK with leaving out). I don't know how sporty it is compared to the C350 since I didn't test out a manual, so maybe C300Sport can let you know.
