Hey guys--on my C350, aluminum wasn't an option. I've got the black birdseye maple--most people think it looks great, but doesn't really suit my tastes. Anyone want to trade their aluminum for my wood? Or does anyone want to sell their aluminum?

I'd be interested.
Any idea on how to remove it without tearing anything up?
Lets take this to PMs.

I'm up for the trade. My car has less than 2,400 miles on it, so there is no wear and tear on the interior at all.

I don't know. I really like the aluminum. I just want my all black interior to be darker. I am either getting maple, CF or piano black paint.

I can assure you I am quite sane. And, no, "anybody" would not. Please don't make the mistake of assuming the rest of the world likes what you like. Woodgrain in car interiors reminds me of my parents' and grandparents' cars of the 70's. I insisted on only aluminum trim in the search for my car. Your final conclusion of each to their own would have been so much a nicer start to your post than opening with an insult.

It has nothing to do with being sane. The fact of the matter is that for someone wanting a more sporty look, the aluminum trim does work better.
I've spent quite a bit of time trying to find wood replacement trim but there was always a problem such as side pieces not being included, etc. I'm glad someone else is interested in a swap.

Exactly! Its such a better forum when we stick to the subject of cars and leave out the name-calling, insults, questions about one's state of mind, gender-identity, etc. and all the other nonsense which takes the place of being able to communicate an idea.
Ok, I'll call you crazy too. It's not an insult - it's the internet. People here are more "free" and "open" in conversation, as with friends; its not like you're talking to your boss at work.
I have the black birdseye maple in my 55 and think it looks tons better than the aluminum. If you had the red/burl/cherry whatever color that is, then I agree with you because I don't like the bright "red" either. But I actually find the birdseye to be luxurious but also sporty at the same time because of its dark/gray/black color. It's different than "standard wood" and I think looks amazing.
That is just my opinion of course, and remember that you will technically be "trading down" by doing this. Your car will "technically" be worth less at sale/trade in (if you do in the near future). But if you like it, then you NEED to go with what YOU like, since you're the one driving it. If so, at least try to get a trade + cash.

Shush Viper....keep that up and he'll change his mind.

Lol yea I completely realized that as I was typing it, since I've been in your position many times. But at the same time, I feel like it's my duty to protect my birdseye maple bretheren
LOL after much thread jacking---anyone near NC where we can meet and swap? Otherwise, Birds eye for aluminum w/ a bit of cash over mail.
Viper, thanks for the help!

The aluminum is more sporty, I like how it looks, but now I love the birdseye. I have a love/hate relationship with my interior.

I'm in Alabama and would be willing to drive 400 miles to make a swap. Originally Posted by stallion150

I'm making the assumption that you know how to remove the trim without damaging anything. Is that correct? What we can do is meet and remove/swap the trim. I'm good at taking things apart but would rather know the correct way of doing it rather than stumpling around and possibly scratching something.

I also agree that wood trim looks better. but at least its real aluminum and not the plastic stuff you get in some other cars. to me, aluminum is very sterile looking, but to each his own

If your willing to drive 400 miles, then how much will it cost you in gas to drive there and back?
How much will it cost to get new trim?
How much will it cost to get a dealer to remove your current trim and install the new trim? ( assuming the trader will pay for shipping of your to him and his to you ).
Just starting points for you to consider to see what it the least costly.
The last thing you want do is bent or break the trim as you take it off or put it on.
Oh one more option, have you called any wreckers to see if they have any cars with the trim that have met an early demise?

This whole theory of trading down and making your car worth less is bunk. In the past, when I have sold cars, it didn't matter that my car had upgrades, down grades, really low mileage or were never driven in the snow. At re-sale time, most people are uninformed and want the lowest price. And, when you check book values (Black Book if you have access), there is usuall only a couple of hundred dollars difference allowed for options that may have originally cost thousands.
