48 US MPG Today

Our 220CDI achieved a relatively good fuel consumption figure today. It was a slow trip because of highway road works & traffic. 4.9 litres per 100 km , 48 US mpg or 57.6 mpg Imperial.

Sorry to brag but this little 2.2 litre diesel engine suits this W204 & me!!

Nice!

Downhill? With the wind? Got someone pushing from behind?

I like that kind of mpg .... It would have been great to have a choice like that here. I've got a friend who rubs it in about his 48 mpg Prius. Sure it rides "comfortably" but it's a Toyota! You've got an MB that equals his mpg.

Is this the special diesel fuel, or would the normal stuff we get here in the US work?

Nice!

There was a tail wind & the diesel fuel is stock standard supermarket Caltex. I think it is the new (5 ppm parts per million )sulphur. Not sure

Good effort Carsy.
I fill up with BP diesel (think its the 10ppm sulphur) exclusively and the best I've got is 6L/100km in my C220 CDI.

I've always stay away from Caltex since I was told by the dealer that it's got biodiesel in it. Maybe it's time to switch over!

You are correct.

Caltex Diesel and Biodiesel Blends
Extra low sulfur diesel
Caltex’s Lytton refinery produces extra low sulfur diesel (XLSD) which has a maximum of 10 ppm sulfur. This meets the diesel
fuel standard to be introduced from 2009. The extra upstream processing required for reducing the sulfur content results in higher
greenhouse gas emissions for XLSD compared with ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) which has a maximum of 50 ppm sulfur.
Caltex New Generation Diesel
Caltex New Generation Diesel is enhanced with 2% biodiesel. It meets Caltex’s strict fuel quality standards, as well as the
Australian fuel standard for diesel. Caltex New Generation Diesel helps reduce Australia’s reliance on fossil fuels and
imports and instead uses renewable fuels, which are produced locally and are a boost to the economy of regional Australia.
The biodiesel blended in New Generation Diesel primarily comes from used cooking oil and tallow, resulting in a saving of
approximately 1.7% in greenhouse gas emissions when compared with 100% petroleum diesel.
Caltex B5 Diesel
Caltex B5 Diesel is diesel blended with 5% biodiesel and is suitable for use in most diesel engines including cars, utes, trucks,
and off road equipment. Research shows that expanded use of biodiesel blends, including Caltex B5 Diesel, can help to lower
greenhouse gas emissions. Plus, Caltex B5 is carefully blended to meet Caltex’s strict fuel quality standards and the Australian
fuels standard for diesel.

Wow! The most I ever got on my mother's C300 4M was 27mpg (US). I did get 32mpg on my S550 driving the speed limit over 290 miles.
