Command Arrival Time Error

Hi guys, I noticed on my command system when I enter a destination, the expected arrival time is way longer than it should be. For instance, a trip that takes a maximum of 45 minutes, the system calculates it to be over 1 hour and 30 minutes. Even when I am 1 kilometre from the destination it says it will take 5 minutes. I took it to a Mercedes Benz dealer and they said it is operating normally. I can't believe it. My wife has a VW and hers works fine, and I have a cheap Tom Tom and it works fine, so I think this is unsatisfactory from MB. Your thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

The system calculates the kilometres to destination right. But even before I start driving the time to cover the destination is way out. Didn't know it shows the actual speed travelled though....

Dealer seem to show lack of interest in this problem, acknowledging there could be a problem. According to MB Australia it seems there are problems with the Maps which MB have organised for their command system. Seems like its a common issue including with the new E Class. Until MB organise new maps I may have to live with the issue, which is annoying, but at least I now know I am not the only one with the problem. I can't believe the lack of service on 2 issues by the dealer. Won't be going back there again.

Is this the same on all routes? Perhaps the map data has an incorrect speed estimate for the roads you are driving? If the map data has a too low speed estimate, the car should not star using your current speed unless your current speed is lower than the estimate (would encourage you to drive the assumed/allowed speed).

Yes it seems to happen on all destinations that are set. Thanks for the info though.

I just wanted to provide an update to my original post. The problem I have is that when I put in a destination, the estimated arrival time provided by the Navigation unit is totally exaggerated. Like a trip that is expect to take say 30 minutes, which my Tom Tom says, the Mercedes Benz Navigation unit says it will take 90 minutes. Following several tests by the Dealer, it appears this is a general fault with the navigation units in similar cars. Apparently I am now in the hands of Mercedes Benz Australia and will have to wait for a fix.

Meaning MB has to wait till the maps data supplier provides better speed estimates for different road sections. But I think someone mentioned that already. Who is the supplier of map data in your area (for MB)?

The maps are produced by Telstra Corporation under their "Whereis" product. Weird thing is whereis.com.au has an online navigation program that works perfectly on the computer, but if the problem is the maps, its surprising it would not operate like it does on their web site. The version I have is for Australia/New Zealand Version 3.0..

Seems like they have fixed it then. Unfortunately it takes often quite a long time before these updates appear to the car map update DVD (from what I've observed for Navteq who provides our maps).

Always? That's interesting then. I guess your navi HW is the same anyway as for ROW and US etc.

The maps are not produced by Telstra, they provide the service. But Australian maps do not seem to come from the traditional suppliers Tele-Atlas or Navteq, even Google Maps is using some other supplier. Telstra mentions Sensis Pty Ltd and Universal Publishers. Google says MapData Sciences. Have your checked if MB map data is really from the same supplier as Telstra is using?

Just thought I would provide an update. The dealer loaded some new software and it has now fixed the arrival time. It also changed some of the graphics on the display to some new cool ones. All good now!!

Do you know if the Map data was also updated? In any case, very good that you got it working as it should.

As far as I know the map data was not changed, but when some of the graphics, like the images that appear you you exit a freeway, have changed, maybe the map data was updated.
