How to remove the spoiler

Hey guys
When I got my car in dec 08 my dealer installed me this lil tiny trunk spoiler caller AMG trunk lip (didn't saw the spoiler before it was installed). When I got my car I was WTF ! Now I want to install the AMG trunk spoiler from our sponsor. Therefore my question how can I remove the spoiler without damaging the paint?

Here's a pic of my tiny lil spoiler

It may be too late to complain, but more than the size, I think the biggest problem is the fitment! It's a wavy misfit on the decklid.

And, the decklid does not fit the body properly....follow the lower character line on the top of the vertical decklid plane and notice how it appears lower than the corresponding line on the rear quarter wraparound. This 2D appearance is likely due to being overflush. I think the decklid needs to move forward-in-car to solve the fit, although it does appear fore/aft flush at the tail-lamp....hard to be certain from a photo.

To try and remove the spoiler, I would try the same fishing line process used for de-badging after a good warm-up indoors. Then you may find if its on with just tape or some other adhesive to determine the next step....probably should have an adhesive remover handy when you start.

That sums up the 204's in general.........every one I've worked on has had half azz gaps on the front and rear ends.

As far as the spoiler removal goes, it is only held on with double sided tape. The warmer it is the easier it will be to take off. You can use a plastic wedge which won't damage the paint and once you get enough off to grab the edge you can then rip the thing off by hand. Or you can carefully use a metal scraper which will cut easier..........but it can scratch up the paint if not carefull.

Actually I hope it's tape and not something stronger!

BTW this is an OEM spoiler from MB Orig. parts!!!

Just ordered the AMG spoiler and cf front spoiler from jpspeed. Who actually made me a great price

I must be lucky....I've gunsighted mine from all angles and appear to have a very good one. For Teck, I would ask for the decklid realignment under MB warranty, as that is a plant issue. He said the dealer attached the spoiler. He might be able to get them just to remove it under their own policy, as they installed it so poorly. He would probably need to explain why it took him so long to notice, however.

Good idea I'll call the dealer as soon as possible.

Thanks fpr your great help it's possible that I'm going to remove it by my self because I don't like it if someone else works on my car and I can't watch it!

Don't use any plastic wedges or metal scrapers. You need to use either fishing line or dental floss method. I can't believe a forum member recommending scrapers for a Mercedes. Seriously!

First...that OEM spoiler looks good when applied correctly. The person that installed yours needs glasses, or should stop drinking Jack for breakfast. Second, to remove it, its easier to do in the summer after the car has sat in the sun all day, but to jump start that, just take a hair dryer to the spoiler, moving it around the edges to get the air under it. Then as the posters above mentioned, go with dental floss and work it under the spoiler using a sawing motion. I would stay away from the metal object idea, even though the area will be covered by the next spoiler, I don't like the idea of scratching the paint and allowing a weakened area for rust to start.

and don't forget to use one of this to clean up the tape residue:

Home Depot/CVS or any Auto Store should have this.

Yes, Goo Gone. Squirt it at the tape first, then heat it.

I don't understand. Just point out how poorly it is installed and ask them to remove it. You are doing them a favor by not asking them to reinstall it.

True, though time is the essence if you have plenty, it would take less than 30 mins to take them off yourself than dropping it off to the dealer and waiting a whole day for them to get to it.

I debadged my car last night using a hair dryer and dental floss and it took me about 30 minutes including waxing it.

You both are right. It is fact that they did a horrible jo but to wait a day for my car sucks.

BTW I was at the dealer yesterday to talk about that spoiler lip...when I entered the dealer the supervisor client advisor said "he again"!!!!!! the fact that I bought my 5th car from them (1 AMG prev. owned plus the C350 CDI for over 100K) plus my parents got their 10th car by this dealer...should I go on??? Oh yeah I worked there for 8 years three years ago...and oh yeah my wife works there!!!!!!!!! when I heared him saying that I just cancelled my order for the C63 AMG which contract I have signed two weeks ago! Enough is enough!
