4 Matic and 18 inch Amg wheels

Hi All,

I apologize if this has been covered before, I did a search but couldn't really find an answer for my question. I have a C300 4matic with 17 inch oem wheels with the all season Oem tires and am in the market to upgrde to the 18 inch AMG wheels. Now from searching on the forum I've discovered that the 18 inchers should fit just fine but my concern is that these usually come with the conti sport tires which are summer tires. I live in the Wash dc area and we usually get about 3 or so snow days a year. Would it totally defeat the purpose of having a 4 matic if I kept these tires on? My wife usually takes my car when it snows so I would have to consider this as a factor before purchasing the wheels and tires. I Would really appreciate your opinions or advice from people that have this setup.

Thanks

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
Keep your current wheels on during the winter and use the 18" wheels in the summer. The OE tires on 18" wheels are summer only. The tread pattern may not be a huge issue, but the rubber is not appropriately pliable in near-freezing temperatures.

If you are looking for 18" C63 AMG wheels

I am not in any way connected or know the seller. I found this while browsing SF Craigslist. Price IMO is a bit high. Good Luck!

+1 on this one. I would not use summer tires in winter. As you can see in my sig I use 17'' wheels in winter....18'' AMG wheels during summer time

If you wanted to keep the 18" on all year, you would need to change the tire. If you use summer tires in the winter, regardless of 4-matic you probably are violating state law, and will certainly be found at fault in any accident, and your insurance company would probably refuse to cover you for the damages.

I went with 18" and 225 40 18 snows for this winter and I regret it. In the snow there is not enough sidewall flex to truly benefit from the tire. It breaks free way too easy.
