Headrest change

So lately I've noticed my passenger headrest to be impossible to stay stable so I went over to the dealer for them to tell me it's broken. So I got the 120$ for the new headrest (Mercedes headrests pop off to prevent whiplash so they have wires connected to the battery which is why they're so expensive). I've never been in an accident so the dealer claims it was someone who hit their head HARD against the rest, which makes me think this is really low quality. The dealer then quoted me $280 to change the headrest. $280 . This is a freaking joke. So I called my friend who works there and he told me that you have to disconnect the battery first (to prevent the airbag from deploying), take off the back of the seat and replace the old headrest with the new one.
I did a search and one guy had to remove it as well but the thread went dead around May so no help there.

Does anyone know how to remove the back of the seat?

Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Here are some pictures to show what I mean:

On the owner manual tell you how to rest set the head rest. Look in to safety section.

"For removal contact an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center."

And I'm not resetting it, I'm actually replacing it because it's broken

broken as in you can't put it back in cuz it will pop out again? or do you think it's broken because the headrest popped out? My headrest poped out when I got rearended and the dealer charged me $120 to put the headrest back in, but later found that they teach you how to put it back in yourself in the manual.

No no, the fixture itself is broken, I have to change the entire headrest. Apparently I have to remove the back of the seat, that's what confuses me.

MB headrests are spring loaded... I would know since mine pop, when the car behind me bump into me at about 5mph... no damages though. Just take it into the dealer and they popped mine back into place.

I understand that , what I'm telling you is mine is broken, the fixture to pop it into place is broken, and I have to install an entirely new headrest unit.

my bad... if it makes you feel better, i was talking to a friend who runs a bodyshop... told him about my headrest issue, he said he just ordered a new one for an M3 and its around 450-500- I guess, BMWs is chemically activated, so one pop, then youll have to replace it.

I guess I am having a hard time with this one. Did you have someone headbanging in your front seat and really do a number on it or are they just wanting to charge you for something that is really a warranty issue?

That's the claim the dealer made, they said I must of stopped hard and my passenger (who's apparently like the juggernaut or something) hit it so hard it broke the mounting fixture thus voiding the warranty.

Unless they can identify how the damage was done, and have definitive proof, they have no justification for denying your warranty claim.
If they can do this, they can simply start claiming that everything that ever breaks is due to "operator error".

I freaking hate my dealer. The proof they said is that the unit was broken forcefully, but that just makes me think that the unit is suuuper low quality then.

Actually, the burden of proof is the opposite. It has to be demonstrated that it was a manufacturing defect. Anything cracking in the interior exposed to passengers is going to be assumed that it was drop kicked by the passenger before Mercedes assumes liability to replace it. It's a contract written BY Mercedes thus it is biased in favor OF Mercedes.

Busted Neck Pro Head Restraints

I know this is a really old thread, but I'm desperate. Plus this is my first post.

In my 08' C300 Sport, my Neck Pro head restraints are really busted. Who knows how (kids, wreck, whoopie - who knows). Must've been that way when I bought it (used) nearly 5 years ago and have progressively failed with age and use.

I've torn mine down and determined replacement is the only option. They can't be repaired. I know they're active, but they're not too difficult to remove/replace aside from the wiring (battery).

Problem is, I can't find them anywhere (online). Hate going to my local stealer.

Does anyone have any idea where I can buy these headrests (restraints)?

Many thanks
