No tires are good for all "reasons"...just for holding cars up off the ground....sorry, I know its a typo, but couldn't resist.
But, seriously, if you don't want to get dedicated winter tires, the following shows Continental Extreme Contact DWS are the best for your purpose. Note the great scores for WINTER/SNOW

I put Toyo Proxes4 on my wifes C300 4matic - night and day over the stock Conti tires that came on it. I live in Oshkosh, WI - roughly 3 hours north of Chicago. Handled the huge storm in mid Dec with no issues at all. Recommend them.
