Owners need to take off the plastic protective guard to take a photo of the sump so that is probably why you are not having any response.

What you you need to know?, Spanner size ?

Have you done this before? You won't be able to re-use the drain plug and will have to buy a new one from the dealership. The approved method is to use an oil extractor and remove the oil from the top of the engine.
Just a bit of advice.

Take a look at the search facility at the top of the page .You should find a lot of ideas & info so you can make up your own mind on the methods.

What's the issue with the drain plug? I did an oil change this weekend, and I asked my mechanic about it while I was lifting my car and he just kept laughing about that. I did the oil change and everything seemed to go without issue.. though I noticed the oil filter that came from the factory kinda sucked and it was not the reinforced Mann filter.

I was told the drain plug has a crush washer attached to it and once it is removed- it must be replaced or there is a chance of leakage.
It's not worth taking a chance to me.

I see no reason not to reuse the drain plug . It is good practice to change the copper sealing washer occasionally. I have been using the same drain plug for 30 years.

It does have a crush washer. The last time I went in for a service, they either forgot to change it, or it didn't seat properly and I was leaking oil like crazy. I took it back in and showed it to them and they replaced it and actually said to me "We had to replace the crush washer that didn't seat properly the last time we serviced your car. We are sorry."

Aloha,

I find this kind of weird, because Mercedes uses an oil extractor to pull the oil out of the dipstick tube, when they do oil changes. I like the old method, draining oil from the oil pan, that way I get more out. Very little oil left over. And there is a crush washer, I bought 4 of them the last time. I tend to buy 2 filter at a time, so that I will have an extra when the time comes. My E63 has two drain plugs, that I wasn't aware of when I changed its oil, replaced both crush washers. Make sure that you use some loctite on the threads. Those that tell you to buy a new drain plug, are wrong. You can reuse the existing one, there is nothing wrong with it, that needs replacing, but use a crush washer. And torque to 25-28 ft/lbs. Mahalo

The only drain plugs that are one time use, according to MB, are those on the AMG Komp engines. Not all dealers use fluid evacuators either, we use both ways, I prefer to drain from the bottom.

Hello Kauaiboy,

I don't know why people just don't answer the question. Hopefully you found it by now, but if not. The oil drain plug is at the front of the pan facing the driver's door. I changed the oil before and still had to search for it the next time. But now I'll remember where it is. I have a photo for anyone who wants me to e-mail it to them.
There's a tiny v dip in the pan that marks the location.
And I have re-used the drain plug with absolutely no problems!

There's a great video that shows the drain plug bolt:

http://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/20...and_oil_filter

Some advice when you crack open the plug. Make sure your drain pan extend roughly 8-12 inches in the direction of the bolt. With 8.5 quarts of oil, the oil just fires out and you should account for this or have your floor covered in oil.

The drain plug bolt is a 13 mm (SAE I believe). It's facing the driver's side wheel and is painted black.
