CF Vented Hood in development

As some of you know, BAD430BENZ bought the first Stone Carbon vented CF hood for his C63 (https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...hood-pics.html). This is basically a C63 hood with SL65BS style hood vents. I'm working with Stone Carbon right now get one made for non-AMG 204s so just wanted to keep you all apprised on what's out there in terms of hoods. Plan on painting the whole thing color matched white and leave the inner sides of the vents CF for a bit of accent. Also, going to try to get them to not include the C63 humps if possible as it might be a bit too busy otherwise. Still not working out the design details and deposit hasn't been placed yet (since they won't be able to start working till after Chinese New Year), but wanted to inform the community of what's possibly coming out and poll opinions.

Also, if anyone's interested, let me know and I could potentially work out a group buy price. As stands, you're looking at about $900ish with another $300ish for shipping/customs.

i think it looks great, a little too aggressive for my c300 though.

I agree with you about taking the humps out to make it less busy, maybe even make it less aggressive... I would be up for the group buy but I'm just looking for a regular c63 style hood that fits our cars well.

I'd definitely consider it. With you on that, paint the whole thing to match the body except for the vents. Not sure if I'd leave the C63 hood bumps though, I think it looks a bit too busy.

I agree. I think it's an awesome looking hood...but would look very out of place on an otherwise stock C300/C350. I could def see that on a C63 or possibly a modded C300/350

Would a group buy drop the total price to $1,000? If so, I would consider purchasing one!

I don't see it as rice, especially when you paint it to color match. It's like saying SL65 is rice or any Black series car or DTM car for that matter. At least the vents are functional and with the oversized hoods we have, a very real weight saver. Vorsteiner has made some really nice looking vented hoods for BMWs for a while that I'd say qualifies as more aggressive-euro/euro-muscle than rice.

Then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Yeah I think leaving off the humps is a good idea as well. That's the one thing kinda keeping me away from the CF vented hood, is I too think it might be a little too busy. I think if you were to leave the humps there, then there should be no standing edges around the vents. But without the humps, then I think those edges would look good like the SL65 BS.

I personally would paint the whole thing though as I think the shadows created by the vents and the vents themselves offer enough subtle aggressivness. Good luck either way, looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Totally agree. I wouldn't say it's rice at all...looks like well done product...but like I said I don't think ALL Cs will be able to pull off such aggressive styling. That being said...AZN I think your C will pull off the hood nicely given your other cosmetic mods...can't wait to see the final/installed pics

I think it would look better if the vents replaced the humps, not just removing the humps and leaving the vents so far out to the sides.
Not sure if that's what you meant or not. Didn't see anything about moving the vents more towards the center.

I am not feeling the look of the hood, maybe with the new design you I might be persuaded.
I have a vented hood on my other car, but in my opinion it doesnt look right.

$900 is not bad for a cf hood, but the initial production should hopefully be less expensive..

Michael,

Any idea how much weight saved compared to the stock hood?

Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but someone on the C63 forum installed a CF hood with no vents, and he saved 40 pounds. Should be around the same, right?

Me too but what is the fitment difference between the fitment to a c63 as opposed to a reg w204 I mean why cant people just swap hoods between the two?

yeah, c63 is wider than c300/c350. Not trivial to swap to a c63 hood. Well, I PMed him asking what options I have in terms of modifying their original design for our models, so will see when I get a response.

FYI, I'm going to ax this project with this particular vendor. Deal was starting to get shady. Wanted me to pay for the mold which they said I'd be the owner of (wtf am I going to do with a mold and I bet they'd make a copy for themselves). Also asked them if they had a test vehicle to check fitment and they kind gave me pseudo answers like they were sure they can aquire one later. Disappointing, but oh well.

I think some ppl consider it ricey cuz that type of vent is normally used on cheaper CF hoods for say civics and what not. If you look at most vented hoods for euro cars ie Vorsteiner, DTM Autohaus etc they use more louver (spelling?) type vents.

I'd actually be more interested in that type of vent than the one Stone is offering.

LOADED 08' C350 & 14' GLK-350 Diamond White (P1, MM, AMG Pkg, Ln Trkng, Htd Sts, Keylss Go)
i have always wanted a C63 replica hood... i think i could pull it off with by c63 style xenons and black grill with pano roof and cf front lip front end mods... i would like the bumps no vents or the vents no bumps...

and agree would have to have it color matched artic white, that woule be the only way so it wouldn't look cheap/ricey on my car.... or would just prefer a direct fit non-cf hood in c63 style if possible...
