Determining offset

I'm considering getting new wheels and I wanted to get a better understanding of "offset". Based on my limited understanding, offset determines how much the wheel sticks in or out.

I read somewhere on the forum that for C300, the front offset is 45 and rear is 54? Is this the number I need to stick with or is there a range of offset that is OK for our cars?

Does offset vary with height or width of the wheel? Ex. would offset be different for a 8" wide and a 9" wide wheel?

It's a balancing game between offset, width, size.

Thanks. That was helpful.

Is there a way to find out what offset corresponds to different wheel widths for C300 in 18" and 19"?

Very cool
Can you give me offset for 7" wide wheel for our car to get started?

Does the offset change with going from 17" to 18" or 19"?

you're going with 7" wide all around? That's pretty low.

Offsets would only be tweaked on wheel size changes depending on how aggressive a stance you have. If you have some wheel poke, larger size might require pulling in that a bit with higher offset or shortening the width.

I'm considering 8.5 front and 9.5 rear.
But I wanted to get an idea of what offset is required for different widths starting with 7" (which is what I believe I have now on front with 7 spoke style wheels)

Thanks, this gives me a good idea of what offset range I need to be looking at for different size wheels.

There is a set of wheels that I'm considering that is 18", 8.5" with 45 mm offset (both front and back).

Will this be acceptable? - As long as they don't stick out giving a 4X4 look, I would be fine with it.

I am running 18"8.5 with 45mm offset on front with 235/40/18 tires.
They fit perfectly and does not stick out. I can say they are not that aggressive.
You would be fine. I will post pics of my new wheels and tires so you can take a look soon.
(I run 18"9 with 45mm offset on rear with 255/35/18)

Good point about not having a v. agressive look. I figured that my current 17" are 8.5 with higher offset, then putting 8.5 with lower offset will make it come out a bit more.

It would be helpful if you can post pictures.

I am going to run 19x9 ET35 and 19x10 ET38 for a pretty aggressive offset. Best to stay 40+ if u want to be conservative

I am look into purchasing the following:

19x8.5 all around.

Which one of the following offsets would be the IDEAL fit the W204 C300 sport?

25 / 32 / 45

I wouldn't like to have any rubbing issues or have to roll the fenders.

Thanks to any replies.

If I'm putting 18", 8.5" 45mm wheels front and back, what different options do I have in terms of tire sizes?
Can I put:
235/40 front
255/35 Rear
Is it possible to have a configuration that avoids xxx/35 and have at least xxx/40 for sidewall?

I am running with the C63 rims, I wouldnt go any lowe than that. The fronts are perfect to the fender, if any lower, it would probably stick out, but it is also a half inch wider than the 17's

With 18" tires you should just run either a 40front/35 rear or just do 40 all around.

never go with stock offsets unless you love your wheels to be sunk in
