Trunk Mat- Carpet vs. Rubber

I want to get a trunk mat to protect my trunk floor and hopefully cut out a little road noise as well. I have been flipping back and forth between carpet and rubber.
I like the carpet because it will look more like OEM and maybe a little better finished than rubber. I like the rubberized mat because of the obvious utility, but am afraid it will look a little crude.
Anyhow, just wanted to see what you guys have used or would prefer in your own cars.

I would get this liner which is made specifically to fit the C Class:

And, if noise is still an issue, I would line spare tire well with Damplifier Pro. I posted about that a few months ago after I did that install, and it's been very effective.

Both are custom made to fit...sorry if my links were not W204 specific.
The noise is not too bad so I hope another layer of rubber or carpet will take care of it. I am not sure if I am up for throwing any Dynamat/Damplifier in there but the longer I have the car the more little goodies I will be adding...lol

I recommend the WeatherTech mat as well. I have it in my trunk and it's great for keeping the trunk clean from dirt, salt etc. The fit is perfect and it's easy to clean.

I do a lot of mountain biking so it's a must-have for me. The only complaint is that it's not "non-slip" so things tend to slide around on the mat.

Thanks for the info. Although Weather Tech says the mat is non-slip, I thought it might be a bit slippery. The stock carpet is about as slippery as it gets so I was thinking most anything would be an improvement. I am still torn about not having nice plush carpet back there but since it is about time to start buying flats of plants for the yard and garden....I may have to call Weather Tech before the weekend...

The WeatherTech mat will do the job nicely when you put those flower trays in the trunk. The mat can be uninstalled in literally 2 seconds if you want to only use it when you have dirty things to haul around. It just slides-in and slides-out. You can roll it up and store it somewhere in the garage too.

Another option is to buy some of that heavy-duty grey carpeting from Home Depot. They sell it by the foot.

I've taken my interior mats, traced them on the Home Depot carpet, cut it out with an x-acto knife, and created duplicates. It's a nice textured grey so it keeps the interior looking classy. You could do the same with the trunk. Just throwing around ideas...

the oem mat is horrible... offers zero protection. it only makes your trunk space non-slip. it doesn't even fit flush and is too small towards the seats.

does anyone have pics of the weathertech trunk mats in the car? does it sit flush with the walls?

however.. maybe i will keep the oem mat and lay it over the weathertech mats as some say the weathertech mats are not really non-slip.

From the looks of it, the Weather Tech mat fits well and sits flush with the walls except for the area up around the seats. I guess since it cant sit flush on the raised plastic, they just don't bother with that area.

I am also thinking about this mat as it is about half the price and claims to be custom cut:

For noise - dynamat etc.

Personally I would go with OE + optional boxes etc that integrate with trunk mat - so stuff does not fly around in corners etc.

The comment on stuff flying around reminded me...........I bought two of the collapsible cargo boxes sold by MBfor about $17 each. I use them for groceries (each holds two standard size paper bags) and they work perfectly. They don't slide around nor tip over...work perfectly and surprisingly inexpensive. They don't get a lot of press, but this is a very well designed and useful item.

FedEx just dropped off my WeatherTech mat and it looks to be a real quality piece of work. It fits very well and covers everything, even the plastic humps up by the seats. Not sure how "non slip" it will be or if it will cut down on tire noise but so far so good.

ok so to update...
i previously posted about the oem mat being horrible... so i also ordered the weathertech mat. the weathertech mat sits completely flush and offers about 2 inches of "wall" up on the sides... it is of great quality.
however.. as others have previously mentioned, it is not exactly "non-slip". i put the oem non slip mat over the weathertech mats and it is now perfect! not only is there great protection but it is also now non-slip!
(the oem mats were about $65 + shipping from mb of annapolis, md)

The WeatherTech mat does a pretty solid job off cuttting out road and exhaust noise. I was wanting to drop the road noise but will miss a little of the growl. It is not night and day but the difference is noticeable, especially on courser surfaces. And as far as non-slip, it has proven to be a good bit stickier than the stock carpet.
