front plate waiver
got into a accident the other day the collision shop is going to replace the front bumper
i told them to not install the front plate when the car is repaired but they say that’s against the law, what do you guys suggest?
I am thinking making a no front plate waiver for me to sign to give them.
dont know if they will let it fly.................
cant think of any ideas at the monent to get the front plate back....

My car is currently at the dealership getting the bumper fixed while in the process of painting it they are filling the screw holes in my front bumper from the license plate frame. they gave me the whole you have to have a from plate riot act too. Anyways i got my way and can't wait to pick it up to see the finish product

It is against the law, but as long as you sign a waiver acknowledging that you understand the law and do not hold the shop accountable, they should be fine. They're not there to enforce the law, just make sure they're not liable.

When I ordered my car I told them I wouldn't take it if they had drilled the front license plate on. Because it's illegal in NJ to not have a front plate I had to sign a waiver saying I told them not to install it...that way I can't go back and blame them if I ever got a ticket for not having a front plate

Front?
Before my car was delivered, my salesman asked if I wanted the front plate mounted or not. I said, leave it in the trunk, which is where is it has been since October 2007.
I have never been noticed by the law and I think they have better things to do. I see cars all the time without front plates.
My plate is mounted on the bracket, protected by a Lexan cover with a black machined aluminum frame, and wrapped in a cloth in the trunk, ready to install if the need ever arises.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I had a dealership install it on my last car under the law. My MB dealer didn't seem to care about the stinkin' law. You could always get the gomini bracket and have the body shop install it. Then you can remove it when you get home.

when I had my front bumper replaced I asked the shop not to install the license plate mount. The shop is owned by my MB dealership and it wasn't a problem.
One thing I should have done was to glue a large extra strong magnet on the backside of the new bumper, so I could cleanly temporarily attach the front plate when street parking. Right now I devised a mount so that it could be temporarily attached to the underside of my front lip with industrial velcro.

Some states are two plate states, like Texas. If you got issued two plates by the state, thats a good clue that it's a two plate state...they usually don't give out extra plates

50 states = 50 sets of regulations. In this case, 19 require only a rear plate; 31 require front and rear. Keep it in mind the next time you move!

I will stay here then. I like the one plate rule so that must be the reason why its against the law here to back into a parking spot.

If you dont want them to install the front mount then there is this license plate holder through the tow hook. Today i was stopped by a cop for no reason. Leaving my school got searched cuffed because 'my car looks stolen" Anyways the pigg gave me a no license plate fix-it-ticket he said because he stopped me he had to give me a ticket. Anyways i ordered this.

I've said this before, and maybe we all need to be more mature about this.
Given that there is a propensity among states to require front plates, we have an obligation to go back to the auto companies and DEMAND that they accommodate the requirement by providing a design that meets legal standards and looks good.
No amount of stuffing things in the trunk, or on the windshield, or etc. in an attempt to keep the front looking "good" will alleviate the basic problem: there is a valid reason for front plates, just ask any law enforcement officer.
We as a group need to grow up, accept the responsibility of good citizenship, and mount the plates. But we also have that obligation to let MB know we do not like that part of the design.
As to how long you can go without plates, it has happened in my circle of friends that an off-duty cop removed the rear plate from a car and pulled the guy over next day while on-duty. The guy complained he had a plate and stormed to the back to demonstrate: no plate. Huge fine. Moral: if you violate the law long enough, a little time with a screwdriver can ruin your day!
