At 37000km Ive just been told the all four rotors are too thin. Is this normal? I got quoted 900$ parts and labour for all of them. Is that fair?

Thanks

I just came back from Service A today: Almost one year and after 19000KM. The only noticeable information on the invoice is 75% brake pads and from what I've heard, rotors should definitely last longer than the brake pads. I think some say you should've at least changed the brake pads twice before starting to even worry about the rotors.

On my 220CDI the original front disc thickness was 28 mm, rears 10 mm.

Change out thickness is 26 mm front & 8.3mm rear.

If you do not believe your workshop buy a plastic $2.00 pair of vernier calipers

,take your wheels off & check the disc thickness yourself.

If you would like to save money &replace the discs & pads yourself check the how to do info on this forum.

If you have worn down your discs at 37,000 km you have had some fun stopping

How do you measure the thickness with a vernier caliper? Wondering because the rotor usually has a lip on the outside edge as the middle portion has been worn down. Vernier calipers are flat and wont clear this little lip to measure the middle portion of the rotor, so I am curious what technique you use?

Thanks!

I take the lip off with a light rub with a file.
