COMAND won't play MP3s without ID tag?

COMAND won't play MP3s without ID tag?
I just got a PCMCIA-to-SD adapter and tried it for the first time. Looks like the system was not able to play the tracks that did not have an ID tag (no artist/album/title stored in the header). Is that right or is there something else in the MP3 that would make COMAND not play it?

Not only that it recognizes ID3, it fully supports unicode tags as well; I also have no problem playing files without tags. I usually just strip the tags when I'm too lazy to fix the messes in them.
