Quality of Bluetooth

I don't often use my phone in the car, but on the ride home yesterday I had to make some calls. It seemed like the people on the other end had a lot of trouble hearing what I was saying during our conversation ( I could hear them loud and clear, and I had full signal strength ). I ended up calling three different people ( all calls to their home phones, not mobile to mobile ) and all could not clearly hear what I was saying.

I assume many of you use the bluetooth pretty often in the car. Is this normal ? How would you rate the quality of the connection ? Do you get a lot of complaints from people on the other end that they can't hear you ? I have a 3GS iPhone with AT&T - I ended up not using the hands free and just talking to them while holding the phone and all conversations were fine so I don't think it was the phone or the service.

Let me know your thought before I take it to the dealer and let them check it out.

Thanks,

Nick

Another round of ICE
The reports I got from callers was that my Blackberry Curve was ok, but a bit of the "speaking in a barrel" sound. When I changed to a Blackberry Bold 9000, several comments that the sound was very clear and much improved.....same car.

I think it depends on the phone, but there's a setting u should try first. i think it's on Phone > setting or something.. but it basically can turn up ur outgoing and incoming sound. since ppl having trouble hearing u, turn up the outcoming volume. that's wat i did for my Car

I am not sure about a setting being on the iPhone 3GS for bluetooth. But I believe that there is a setting in the car for this... I have the P1 package with the audio 20 (no flip up screen) and I also have a iPhone 3GS, I get no complaints and everyone can hear me perfectly fine. I think when I first got the car I did increase the speaker volume... I can't recall though as it was so long ago... Sorry I couldn't have been of better help.

Something to note though is that if the windows are open it makes it very difficult for the person to hear what you are saying. If the windows were open, try closing them. If the problem persists, take it to a MB dealreship, thats what they are there for; maybe it is a problem with your vehicle... who knows?

3G mines is crystal clear, better than the crappy speakerphone on the handset itself.

Agree, i have had various phones with crappy BT (LG koodo, Imate ppc, Sony).

I am using a blackberry in this car and the sound IMO is awesome, never had any complaints from other people.

try pairing another phone and compare

Thanks everyone ! When I got home last night I had my wife call me from the car while I was in the house and the sound was crystal clear, so it must have just been something with the network on my ride home Tuesday. I appreciate the feedback though ( and glad I don't need to make a trip to the dealer ).

Mine is crystal clear as well. Sometimes depending on the connection, it will be muffled but it's more often than not a network problem versus bluetooth. Unless the connection is always bad, then it could be the phone.

There is a TSB for this, I had mine fixed a few weeks ago. They did a (much needed) command update which also fixed my AUX sound being too low:

Fix Bad Quality Bluetooth phone call reception by updating software for 2008:
MB Star Bulletin: P-B-82.70/61d

On a side note, for those with retractable side mirrors that are making annoying sounds: They said there is a new redesigned part that fixes this. So they are completely replacing the noisy (bad) parts now instead of just adding lubrication and sending you on your way. This is another TSB, I'll try to track down the number if anyone is interested.

Yes please, my left mirror motor was replaced maybe three months ago (it would squeek after opening) and now its back again. so that might be a solution.
