Check engine light... cylinder 2 maulfunction
Check engine light... cylinder 2 maulfunction
Hey guys, my car's yellow check engine light came on today. While driving, the car suddenly lost power and the yellow check engine light started to blink. I slowed the car down and it started to idle real rough and would stutter every time I would try and accelerate. Good thing I was near the dealership when this happened so I was able to get the car into the dealership and scanned by the computer right away. Turned out there was a malfunction with cylinder number 2 and the fuel system. The dealer did a software update but the problem came back after a quick road test. The dealership says that the next step is to check the spark plugs and ignition system. Anyone experienced a similar problem? Anyone know what's up with my car? Just curious what could be causing the problem. Thanks!

Just an update in case anyone out there is interested, I got my car back already, turned out to be burned out spark plugs. I'm actually quite surprised to have the spark plugs burned out so quickly though. I only have 34k km on my car. Though apparently I'm not alone as another C class, this time a C350 also had the same burned out spark plugs at 44k km.

It is a bit premature for our spark plugs to burn out that fast.
Regular resistors last about 20k, platinum plugs last about 30k, and finally double platinum last about 50k. I'm surprised your dealer hasn't changed them for you though on your 30k visit?

No they didn't replace them. Probably cause I only asked for an oil change during my last visit.
When you said regular resistors last about 20k and plugs last about 30k, are these miles or kilometers?
