Crazy Cruise Control on 6MT cars!!

I rarely ever use my cruise control but took a 200 mile trip on the interstate today. I was rolling up a long off ramp, engaged the clutch, popped the shifter in neutral and let out the clutch...to my surprise, the engine raced to redline, bounced off the limiter and I heard a new beep I haven't heard before(I guess telling me my car was trying to blow itself up) before I tapped the brakes and calmed everything down.
Anyhow, I now know our cars are designed to reengage cruise control unless the clutch has been depressed for 5 seconds or longer. I think that is pretty f#ck!ng stupid!! If you are using your clutch, it seems to me it would pretty well mean you are wanting to take control back from the car.
Also, with all the electronic nannies our cars have, you would think it would know if it was in gear or not...other cars do this.
Another major saftey concern would seem to be if I were to have held in the clutch a second or two longer and then dropped into a lower gear, my car would try to launch me into the back of the car in front of me when I let out the clutch...instead of my anticpated braking effect...more like a breaking effect.
Anyhow, just wanted to see if anyone(or everyone) else already knew this and what you think about this feature...and maybe if it can be disabled??

I observed the same feature but came to a different conclusion. First, I routinely either tap the brake or flick the cruise control stalk with a fingertip when I know I don't want it any longer. But, I like that the c.c. stays engaged because when I am trying to maintain a speed, typically on a secondary road around here with lots of radar enforcement, I can shift and keep the c.c. working. For example, we have a road which starts out hilly exiting the highway, and then flattens out before it reaches my home. I get to 5th gear, set c.c., get through the hills, and at the flat part, simply clutch, shift to 6th, and release clutch, and still hold at the speed limit. Downshifting works in the other direction. Of course, you need to move the lever directly, with no lingering in the gate!

If you press the clutch and hold it for about 4 seconds while the CC is on it will 'beep' and a message will come on the screen saying "cruise contorl off". I've never placed the car in neutural and released the clutch, I'll def make sure I never try that now.

I can see how it could be useful. I guess with my "limited" use of the cruise, I would prefer it to simply disengage. Of course this is not something I will be doing again but it is another Benz element (at least to the domestics and Japanese cars I have owned) that I will have to get accustomed to.

Well from now on that will be the case but I was surprised that my car seemed to want to detonate itself.

I rarely use the cruise and wouldn't think I would do that very often...but that long uphill off ramp seemed like the perfect place to give it a first try...whooopss I have actually had two cars that I know from experience would disengage cruise if the shifter simply popped out of gear...no brakes, no clutch, just shift linkage switch

With auto gear and cruise control all you miss is one pillow.
I like manual gear and especially ordered my car without the c.c and of course without that annoying lever for c.c.

I tried it today after reading this thread. I set the CC to about 38, depressed the clutch and the engine revs jumped about 500 - 1000 rpms. Just as I was going to turn off the CC I heard a beep and the display read CC off, or something like that.
