Digital TV Tuner into a Command?

<Objective>
I want to add in a digital TV tuner* into our Command via the Video Aux.

<Action>
- I have gone into the engineering mode at 7.7 Video Aux and turned it ON.

<Issue>
- When I switch to Video at Command, there is only a single option, that is, Video DVD ans it starts playing the DVD.

<Question>
- How could I get the Video Aux option make available to me?
- How could I connect the digital TV tuner into the command?
- What item/s do I need?
- Where could I purchase all the necessary items online to get it work?

<More Details>
- The green Fakra connector on my comand was used for the rear view (or reverse) camera

May I consult the subject-expertise on how I could achieve my objective?

Thank you.

Best Regards.

i'm not sure on how to connect digital tv, but from what I know, rear view camera and Video AUX can not co-exists together.
If you turn rear view carmera off from engineering mode, then you should be able to see Video AUX option will be avaliable to you.

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.

I too read somewhere from those VIM's vendor stating Reverse/Rear-View camera cannot co-exist with Aux Video thus I wonder is there a way to overcome it so that we could have these 2 options available. Option 1: Reverse/Rear-view camera and Option 2 Aux Video.

Or is there any gadget like VIM that could plug-n-play giving us these 2 available options.

Thank you.

Cheers!

Is it really no one could offer their assistance pertaining to my situation? Really appreciate if I could get some opinions/advice on this matter.

Link to the digital tuner manual:

I suppose you guys may offer assistance if I elaborate into details.

Hence, allow me to share the following:

<Objective>
To be able to watch local TV channel (for this case, only 4 channels available in Singapore) via the Command APS so as to please my wife.

<Current Situation>
Features:
- Can watch DVD on the move (with VIM)
- Can also listen to Radio
- Can also navigate if need to
- Can have rearview surrounding via reverse camera (when R gear engaged)
- No AUX VIDEO option

<Item>
Item: Digital TV tuner (DTV)
Brand: Digistream
Model: DTV2000
Manual: See attachment
Weblink: http://www.digistream.com.sg/Resources/Specs/Manual_DTV2000.pdf

<Understanding>
- The Command APS do have an Aux Video option.
- Many discussions were shared in various MB forums that one could have either only the option of (1) Reverse camera or (2) Aux Video.

<Exploration>
- Are we able to have the 2 options (that are, (1) Reverse camera or (2) Aux Video) if we do the following:

~~ WORK IN COMMAND APS ~~
- Allow the green Fakra connect (on the command) to be connected to this item (DTV) to achieve the objective (video source)
- In the engineering menu, dis-activate the rearview camera option (This is to achieve the Aux Video option)
- Special Work on the Command audio L/R pins to accept DTV RCA L/R audio cable (This is a step which I am not clear on how to do it)

~~ WORK IN DIGITAL TV TUNER~~
- Connect the DTV's video output (single point yellow RCA cable similarly to the Reverse Camera) into the Command (via the green Fakra)
- Connect the DTV's audio output (double points red/white RCA cable) into the Command (via the Command audio L/R pins)
- Customise an adaptor cable (3.5mm jack with RCA for video source). This is for connecting the Reverse Camera RCA cable into the DTV's AV-IN.

<Remarks>
- The objective is to have the DTV connected to the Command
- Can forgo the rearview camera as primary option meaning that I will toggle a switch in the DTV's remote control to have the rearview surrounding

The main obstacle (for me) is to achieve the special work on the Command's audio L/R pins to accept the L/R audio source (i.e. L/R RCA cable) from the DTV. Thus, would appreciate if I could obtain assistance/advice whether is this feasible?

I have copied a picture found in this forum and add 2 text boxes stating my requirements. See picture.

The aim is on how to connect the DTV's audio source (L/R RCA cable) into the Command's aux audio?

Thank you.

Cheers!

writeup is the same style as a science/engineering grad student!
everything is so clear

The video posted by mid city engineering seems to match my requirements acquiring the aux video for an external source.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfF0H...e=more_related

But after visiting their website, I am still not so clear on what to get and whether the installation guide is helpful enough for my understanding.

May I have some advice on this?

Cheers!

i think mid city engineering sells a adapter which converts from Comand aux audio input to RCA L/R.

I have consulted MidCity. They've responded promptly. One of their products fits my requirement. I have to replace my VIM (don't know which brand) to their VIM but I am not willing to pay for another piece of VIM (would not have hesitate if I have not acquired the earlier one).

I spent times reading various forums about the this installation (i.e. an external video source). Eventually I read the Command's manual again in details and found a chapter on Video Aux and it's seems worthwhile to try.

For sharing.

Any comments?

Cheers!

Looks like that Aux jack is really a Video/Audio aux jack and all you need is that cable. Wonder if the jack is the same even on the Audio 20 systems and whether Video could be enabled through that when Aux is selected.

<Status Update on this DIE-DIE-MUST-HAVE project>

Status 1: No video signal (although I heard audio sound) from the audio/video 1/8 inch jack located into glovebox.

Status 2: See the following.

<Action 1>
~~~ WORK ON ENGINEERING MENU ~~~
- Turn off (dis-activate) Rear-view Camera
- Turn on (activate) Aux Video
Note: Rear-view Camera CANNOT CO-EXIST with Aux Video. Thanks for the inputs from white46. Of course, also to fellow MBWorld's members who'd contributed in other similar threads.
<Action 2>
~~~ WORK ON COMMAND NTG4 ~~~
- Connect the green Fakra cable to Command Aux Video
- {PENDING} Connect the I-connector (MQS) with L/R Audio RCA jacks to Command Aux Audio

<Action 3>
~~~ WORK ON DVB RECEIVER ~~~
- Connect the 3.5mm video jack into AV Input
- The other end (RCA jack) into Alpine Rearview Camera HCE-C100
- Connect the RCA video jack (this is the other end from Green Fakra Cable) into Digital TV-Tuner Video Output
~~~See diagram for a better understanding~~~

RESULTS: SUCCESSFUL!!!
- Can see the Digital TV channels on the command's screen via Aux Video
- Can see the Rearview surroundings on the command's screen when reversing

Temporarily, no sound. I am waiting to get the I-connector (MQS) with L/R Audio RCA jack so that I could connect it into Aux Audio. Any comments or feedbacks?

Note: Mid-city Engineering is certainly speedy with their replies. They too are very helpful. They would ensure that you get the right parts. But, the I-Connector (MQS) quoted would cost USD$50 + another est. USD$50 to ship to my location (SINGAPORE).

Cheers!

I have from this forum and obtained many helpful inputs from the fellow members here. Eventually, I have successful done what I want.

Perhaps, you may wish to drop me a PM to let me know what's your requirements and what're the intended items you would like to install. My assumption is your ride W204 is already equipped with Command-APS NTG4.

Thank you.

Cheers!

OP, this tuner will only work while sitting still. You need a ATSC m/H compliant tuner to work while in motion. See our site for details.

Digital tuner

Hello,

Did you take the one members advice and install a atsc m/h digital tuner? I live in Washington dc area and I would like to get your step by step install instruction. It would only be worth it for me if you got the digital tuner is working since there arent any analog channels being broadcasted. I own a 2003 E500 (w211). I have a Harmon kardon system in my car. I also see a previous member asked for the instructions as well. I would greatly appreciate it if you'd provide me with those detailed instructions.

Thanks,

ps. I also sent you a PM
