tires size

my cars front tires size is different from rears.

front is 225/45/17 and rear is 245/40/17

i want to ask what difference make this instead of having all tires the same size?

if i change them to same size, will driving be smoother or not?

maybe your wheels are staggered which means rear ones are more wide then the front wheels

Logically it is smoother as it has less contact to the surface. You surely loss rear traction, but it should turns "tighter". Why mess with what has been engineered for?

If thats the case then you should not have bought a C class. The tires and wheels are designed like that for a reason. Having the same size tires would not change the ride.

MB has fitted staggered (wider in back) wheels for decades for appearance purposes. That particular tire size was used on the 1996 W202 C36, the later C43, C32 and C55. I had a set of 17" C36 wheels on my 2001 C320.

The 40 series tires in back will ride slightly harder but it's more the tire brand than the aspect ratio, speaking from personal experience.
