Rear spoiler
I have a 2008 C300 Sport and want to get a spoiler on the trunk. I have been reading theses posts for hours about the different types of spoilers but I still have a question.
Is there a difference between a "boot lip" spoiler and a AMG spoiler?
I dont want a big fancy spoiler on my trunk. I went to the dealership and looked at the new 2010 C300's on the lot and some of them had a spoiler on the trunk lid. It was nothing fancy and I looked at the window sticker to see how much was charged for it from the factory and it was $300. These were not C63's, just standard C300's. This is what I want, so it would be called the "lip" spoiler , right?
I did read several posts about 2 good places to order these from and just wanted to know if this still held true.
First place was jbspeed.com and the second was a seller on Ebay by the name of bmwchop168.
This is my first modification, so any input would be appreciated very much.
Thanks,
John

I ordered exactly what you describe from JBSpeed. Roof spoiler from BMWChop. Quality and paint match were excellent at both.
This comment will bring disagreement on this forum, but I suggest not relying on just the 3M adhesive tape to hold it on. Adhesive tapes have specific conditions for optimal application, ambient temp, pressure, surface prep, hold times, etc. Some will say they do just fine with tape, but there have been reports about spoilers held on with just tape coming loose. Imagine the people in the car behind you. Add a bead of urethane, tape it down, and let it set for the day. A local bodyshop/independent MB shop will know exactly what to do. MB makes the urethane. Of course, be sure you like it and it's in the right place....it's really not coming off without a lot of force.

Thanks for your reply and your input.
I would probably have to order from bmwchop since he sells the lip spoiler which is the one that I want assuming that is the same one that comes from the factory and is on the new cars sitting on the lots now.
jbspeed only sells the AMG spoiler which I dont think that I want.
I want to keep the spoiler minimalistic.

My spoiler is kept on with just the 3M tape it came with and it's been sturdy for the last 2 years (high pressure car washes, rain, 100+ degrees temps). Take Sportstick's advice if you want that extra peace of mind but the tape should do it's job as long as they're using 3M tape or better.

(although I don't see where you indicate your color. He didn't have this web site when I purchased....we communicated by email)

Mine is the Arctic White. Now I think I want the one that you have instead of the lip spoiler. Do you have any other views of it besides the one picture that you posted?
I also heard that you should buy a wax remover and remove the wax from the car where the spoiler is to be placed. Is that true or is just being sure that it is clean and dry good enough?
I have a feeling that I am going to end up with the roof spoiler too
Thanks

Don't know about surface prep, proper temperature, nor adhesion pressure. I let my independent MB shop do the work, including the urethane set up.

If you want your spoiler to be just like what you saw on the lot, you can order the same thing from the dealer. It will cost you more but I'm just putting it out there that it's an option.

Yeah, I've already been that route and said screw it when the dealership said the part would be $689.00 which includes them painting it but not installing it. Thats highway robbery!!

Looks great! I'm getting that one!! I know every dealership is different, but do you mind if I ask what they charged you for installation?

I think it was about $50, which is roughly 1/2 hour of their time rate. A good body shop should be similar.
Where are you located?

2012 GL & 2013 C Class
Just purchased a new 2013 c class. Came with the trunk spoiler and wanting to add the rear roof spoiler......Question - Are they easy to install? Or is this something better left to a professional body shop? Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks - Stefan (PS - If your looking for good door pins I've installed some already...I can send u the link in the forum) Cheers! Stefan
