ipod- does this sound right?
throwing this out there to see if i am getting bent over by the dealership.
We have a 2010 with Comand and Ipod integration. The cable for the ipod is in the glove box.. came with the car. So, I have an Ipod nano, its either 2nd or 3d gen. It plays fine in the car, but does not charge.
We just sent the car back for it's first A service and let them know that the ipod would not charge.
Just got a message from the dealership saying that i needed an adaptor to have the iPod charge, and (this one set me off a little) they took the liberty to just go ahead and install it. WTF?
I was under the impression that a 2010 should be compatible with all Apple devices manufactured up to ......2010?
I could be wrong, so please chime in because i have to call them back and i want to sound like i know what i am talking about if i have to chew them out..

Yes, I think the reason is that the newer ipods charge off of a different pin in the connector. MB had to pick one or the other as the default cable, so they picked the one for the older ipods. You used to have to get a separate cable, which I think cost more, but they recently came out with an adapter. Either way, your dealer should have asked you first. If you would have bought it anyway, then don't worry about it. If you don't want it, return it.
