Question on tire size and rims

hello,

I am very new to this forum and have a question for you. I bought a 2008 C300 Sport used and they came with these 18" gunmetal AMG rims.

I dont know anything about rims, tire size, what the car should have, etc. Well, the tires rub the fender everytime i hit a bump in the road! It's driving me crazy! The crunch noise is irritating. I took it to a tire place and they said my rim size is ok but my tires are oversized in both the front and back. The tires i have now are staggared. Which I really want to switch to the same size all round.

They said i would need 225/40R18 for the rims i have now. My question to you all is, will that take away the rubbing?! They say yes, but the owner's manual said i should have 17s if i am reading right?

It would be great if all i needed was new tires to get rid of the problem and not new tires and rims! The rims are kinda cool looking too

Any thoughts?

Welcome. I am looking at the Operator's Manual for my 2010, and for AMG 18" wheels C300 Sport, it shows 18 X 8 ET 50 mm for the front with 225/40 R 18, and 18 x 8.5 ET 54 mm for the rear with 255/35 R 18.

I hope that this helps.

the wrong tire size can definitely cause rubbing, also if your offset of the wheels are wrong..

Rather than trying to explain, spend a little time reading through here...
