Portable HD via USB - is there a 120 GB limit?
Hello guys,
I have tried searching, but unfortunately, I could not find answer.
I have new 500 GB filled with cca 300 GB of music. My previous 120 GB HD with 110 GB of data was working ok. But with new HD, Command seems to be able to read only first 120 GB worth of folders listed alphabetically.
My question is, if there is a limit build in Command or if any of you guys is using more than 120 GB worth of data with no problems.
If so, will Command require some kind of reset, to learn new HD capacity?
Thank you for any kind of advice.
David

DavidM,
What is the part number of the cable/s you are using? I have 2 individual cables. 1 for the USB connection and 1 Y cable with the iPod/iPhone connector along with the AUX jack. It is a pain to switch between the two and would like them to be all on the same connection to the car.
Does the USB connector power the 120G HD or are you using an alternate source of power?
I will try my 500G HD over the weekend and post my results.

It does power HD, it is 2,5 inch HD. 120 GB one was same type, only smaller capacity. It is broken now tho.
I have tried reset of Command but I can still see only first 120 GB. Please let me know, if you have any luck with your 500 GB. Thank you.

DavidM,
I have tried my 250G HD and am pleased to announce it works. I formatted the drive on my Mac using the "MS DOS" format and set it up for 1 partition "test". The "MS DOS" format on the Mac is the Windows equivalent of "FAT32". I copied over about 40G of music and was able to browse the partition and play the music.
Next I will try my 320G and 500G HD's (need a place to dump the files) once the drives have been cleaned up. Stay tuned!

I think this could be right. My manual (for a C207, admittedly) talks of up to eight directory levels with up to 1000 tracks, so check if you have exceeded these limits in increasing the capacity of the drive. I do remember once seeing a list of portable drives tested by MB on one of their European sites and can't remember seeing anything as big as 500GB but this could be because they were not around when the list was compiled.

Here is the list of supported HDD's :

or at least what they tested and I see it goes up to 500 GB.
Please post here the working configurations for 5.1 .aac, .wma formats you use.
