Ive always wired my V1 into the light cluster.. I only see write ups for the wires being run to the fuse box along the side.. Is that really the only way to do it?

You won't find switched 12V up there and there is no side fuse box on US models.

I think he was referring to the DIY that run the wire to the passenger side of the U.S. spec cars, down the pilar and into the glove box where they plug it into the cigarette lighter, using a flat wire car power cable.

Once you are behind/under the dash, there is no reason not to run it to the front fuse box. It's very easy and provides a solid connection, unlike using the power outlet in the glovebox.
