Map/Navigation issue..

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone else is experiencing any Navi mapping issues and if there is an easy way to deal with it. Every so often I find that car location on navigation maps is wrong and the car is not showing on the map where it should be. This goes on for some time and eventually it fixes itself.

Thanks..

I had so many issues with the nav this weekend, I swear I wanted to break it off and toss it out the window, it kept telling me to go down one way streets and than it lost the car's position for around 30 minutes.

I am going to the dealer this week and see what they can do.

Is this an issue for command or GPS antenna? I am looking at a UMI. If it is caused antenna, then UMI would have the same problem...

Guys, did you get your navigation issues solved? I live in the East Bay and the navigation shows my car and location in the South Bay. I reset the Comand settings but nothing. I went through the manual and no darn troubleshooting section . I plan on calling the dealer tomorrow to set an appointment.

I still have this issue. I can say that more often than not, my maps are completely out of sync. I will ask next time I go in for service, which is not for a while, so that is why I am asking everyone here.

Piksi1975, thanks for the reply. I am taking my car to the dealer on Wednesday. I drove my car today and still the same issue. I will let you know what my dealer says on Wednesday.

I have only had one problem in almost 3 years and that wasn't that big a deal. It showed me on a road that was next to the one I was on but when they went their seperate ways it jumped to the right road.

OK, I took the car to the dealer but since the navigation was working fine the technicians were unable to replicate the issue. So 3 days without navigation but the day I need to take it to the dealer is all working fine. Go figure

I took my car in this morning for the same problem. They tell me that they need to replace the GPS antenna.

I had the same issue in Dec on and off for 3 weeks. I brought my car in and they discovered its my GPS antenna shorting out. They regrounded the system and its been working fine since, even if the car is "lost" its able to find its location again within 10 seconds. Maybe its a common issue?

Well the dealer replaced the new GPS antenna and it still didn't fix the problem. Further test revealed that it was faulty wiring. The navigation is working fine now.

I hope there's no next time, but how do you check for the strength?

Thanks in advance.

Same boat. Replaced antenna but the GPS loves to get screwy once in awhile. Is there some kind of "hard reboot" on that thing so that it will do a cold start? It seems like it never really contacts the satellites, but instead, keep "guessing" where you are.

When I took my car to the dealer the technicians upgraded the software. When the upgrade didnt work they replaced the antena. This was not done at the same time. Check with your dealer or the work order to see if they upgraded the software too. Ever since that fix the issue was gone for good.

this happened to me the other day... i inputted a destination that was around ~15 miles away , but the nav said i was more like 8000 miles away! and that i was off the map. seems like the fix is either software upgrade or antenna replacement?

mmike,
I would say it is the antenna that needs to be replaced but more likely your dealer will try to update the software first. Replacing the antenna was a one day job but it took two visits since the dealer had to order the part.

Good luck!

Looks like a lot of people missed this:

When you are in the navigation menu, go to the bottom bar, and in one of the tabs there is an option called "Compass". This will show you things like altitude, number of GPS satellites tracking you, steering wheel angle, and of course a compass... among other information
