so... 3 coats, tape the chrome but remove the tape while paint is still wet, and how long should i wait in between coats, like 1 hour or so?

Depends on weather , if it's nice out 20 or 30 minutes between coats us ok but let it dry completely before putting your grill or whatever else your spraying back .

Thanks for the kind words. I taped everything then trimmed overhang, and tucked behind chrome. Then sprayed light coat waited till paint was still tacky and sprayed again two more coats. Let dry completely in a cool dry place I left mine overnight . Finally take an exacto knife and trim along all trim seams and unmask. Take your time good luck!

I bought a can of plasti-dip and tried it out yesterday on the workman toro gator at work on the rims... Haha, looks pretty cool now. But anyways, I had a question about painting it.

You guys say that you did 4 or so coats so that you wouldn't see the finish beneath it. When I was spraying the reccommended 12" away, at an average speed for hand movement, the first coat barely covered the rims. However, when I went slower, I easily covered the rim in one coat without seeing underneath it. (sorry if this ins't makng any sense, hard to explain).

Basically, my question is, should I paint it so that I can still see the rim finish for the first coat or two, or cover it up in one coat (which is probably risky for having paint run and getting bloches and uneven finish).

Multiple coats , the mire you do the better it looks and if you nik the wheel you won't to spray the whole thing over again.

question

I assume that you have to do the inside of the wheels as well. Correct?

plastidipped my rims and my mirrors

i plastidipped my rims, gave them 4 coats, and did just on the face, did not need to paint the barrel inside. the plastidip never came off as people said t was and now i have them stored and plastidipp is still on the rims and has saved my wheels a couple times from scrathches while being moved around, also painted my mirrors with them to go with the rims, then when i got my white rims pealed it right of, plastdip works magic

heres my car when i had the stock 17s plastidipped, did it myself very easy and fun diy

thanks blazeitu, i would deffinetly do it, especially if you on black rims, pretty simple diy just make sure try to tape up everything real good, when plastidip is fully coated its easy to come off but overspray of that stuff is a pain to get off
