Advice on A2 service before I purchase this C300?

I just test drove a 2008 C300 (LOVE!)

The light in the dash said "Service A2 Exceeded by 19,200 mi".

Don't think I need to be a rocket scientist to see that is probably REALLY bad.

Can someone explain it?

Many many thanks!

You should actually be posting in the W204 forum, I am sure someone will probably move the thread for you soon.

19,200 miles? I would guess that it means that the car had oil changes (I would hesitate to say services) done somewhere other than a dealer or a indy MB shop. (In other words the 19.95 oil change shop), and they did not know how to reset the indicator. That would make me think there is a good chance that it has not been running MB approved synthetic oils either.

It would also make me be concerned over the maintenance the car has had over it's life. I am assuming the car actually had oil changes or other services done, of course. Not knowing if you are looking at the car from an individual, or a dealer you may never be able to know what happened.

You may love it, but I probably would pass, and look for the same car with a better maintenance history, unless you can sort out what happened.

C300
Is the car being sold privately or by a dealer? I'm assuming privately but the A services are nothing more then glorified oil changes and a visual inspection (key word VISUAL) which they charge upwards of $150+

A2 I believe would be oil changes and some other fluid flushes (no brakes fluid though)

I'd go with what MW_ATL suggested and look for another of the same vehicle with a better history of maintenance.

This burns the question: You (even more so for a "dealer") are selling a car, and someone comes to look at it and it has "Service A exceeded by 19,200 miles" flashing on the dash...you, the dealer, don't seem to mind that? I am with everyone else - look elsewhere or reap what you sow...well, in this case the seller's inactions will have consequences for YOU!

Best outcome would be by confining your used car search to MB dealers selling CPO units. (Certified Pre Owned). The quality and warranty benefits are significant.

2008 C350
What he said. The CPO adds 1 year and 50,000 miles to the factory warranty.
