You can get it through the dealer but the price is insane no matter where you go.

MidCity supplies the dealers. They are the same system. Both midcity and the dealer are $1200...at least by me in Chicago. If you hear a cheaper price man let us know!

I had this in my other car and loved it, but I wouldn't pay $1200 for it.

I believe the price is $600 + Mercedes markup + Mercedes tax = $1200

Unfortunately they can obviously getting away with the Mercedes Mark-up and tax because they have no competition because there is no other remote start available for Mercedes.

Where are you getting this $600 price? I called the makers directly and they quoted me $1200.

Getting into a warm car in Winter sounds nice but I thought it's better for the car if you drive off after starting it, rather than letting it warm up. Not a lot of detailed product info on the web-site that I can see.

Technically it is best to start the car and wait for the revs to get down to normal levels (about 600 on our vehicles) and then drive it very easy to avoid carbon buildup. But starting it and waiting for it to warm up fully or most of the way is not terrible either. Its better than a cold start and driving hard on the car.

Driving easy would be shifts below 2000k rpm.

On the topic of remote start, I haven't found any price cheaper for this model. They do make a viper one, but you need a separate keyfob and it doesn't use our key fob.

Doesn't the MidCity need one of your smart keys to work?

Sure, I didn't mean to drive off immediately but within a short time.

I am sorry that was my attempt at humor, I hope no one thought that those were actual numbers. I was basically voicing my opinion that I believe that the system and install may be worth $600 at best. But due to lack of competition they added a Mercedes Tax. I assumed everyone here knows what Mercedes tax is?!?

TjDehy,
If that's the case, then it probably only cost them $200ish.

I believe I spent somewhere in the ballpark of $1100 installed at a local car audio shop -- this was literally the day that my Mercedes dealership sent me an email announcing they now offered the same kit with warranty.

Thats my life for ya. I love it - no, you don't lose one of your smart keys, it fully integrates with the key so that one push of the panic button starts/stops your car via remote.

I read somewhere in the manual that you can only remote start 5 times in a row or something like that? And you still need to use the key every now and then? Or did I misread?

You are correct --- only 5 times in a row, else the midcity adapter loses sync since the remote has rolling codes, etc. Honestly, I haven't found it a problem as I typically remote start my car at the office, and while running errands and whatnot, but every morning I tend to start the car with the key - so it resets that number each morning.

I've never had remote start before, is that typical for most remote start systems? Or just this one?

Correct, although a small price to pay for the module not needing to eat one of the smart keys permanently... I like having my spare key.
