I had this same error. It has to use a special Mercedes Coolant (otherwise it won't last the 10+ year service interval). It is mercedes spec 325.3 coolant (blue). If you don't want to use mercedes brand, all of these coolants meet 325.3 spec, but I would still use oem:

http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/325.3_en.html

But you can use 325.0 (orange/yellow) for a minor top-up. Technically, you can even just fill it up with distilled water since that is mainly the part that has evaporated.

EDIT: My dealer even offered to do it free, but I didn't want to wait the almost 2 weeks for a service apointment.

The color of the antifreeze solution is just coloring that keeps the solution compatible even after a fill up of mixed colors. No worries.
Now for the meat: MB fluid to specification 325.0 is the ticket. But there are two easy get, Mercedes own label and Zerex G-05 (both totally compatible for fillup mix or fluid replacement).
These are meant for change not further than after 150,000 miles or 15 years in cars with a gel pack (see User's Manual and Maintenance Schedule). The gel pack is long lasting (~300,000 miles) and maintenance free. Otherwise these antifreeze solutions (in distilled/demineralized water) should be replaced every 50,000 miles or 5 years maximum (in opposition to standard 20,000 miles/2-years lasting products).
The reasons have to do with additive depletion, of antioxidants and corrosion protectors, as well as system components materials and functional flow protectors.

I bought Zerex G05 from local NAPA auto parts. It is bit more money than Peak or other brand. MB cars are picky about the coolant.
