1998 C 280 tranny problem
I posted this question earlier BEFORE I found out the sun roof was left open and water poured down onto the shift lever.
So now I am looking to buy this car from a guy I know who LEFT THE SHIFT LEVER GET LOTS OF WATER DOWN ON IT! I guess that reall make s a big difference. Thanks ya'all. Greg BTW Now it won't shift out of first gear.

If its stuck in park I know there is a common problem in pre 2006 Mercedes where a plastic piece connected to the solenoid in the shifter breaks and doesn't let you shift the car out of park. Or it is possible the solenoid has gone bad because of the water. But yes, check the w202 or w203 forums (whichever matches your model year).
