2008 SLK 350
Logic 7 system

I own a 2008 SLK and am considering the additional purchase of a 2010 C Class. The dealer let me take the car for a day to make sure that I liked it but the stereo didn't sound right, it seemed to lack base. When I directly compared it to my SLK with a Logic 7 system, I found the C Class had about the same midrange and highs frequencies but was severely lacking in bass response. The bass response was so bad in the C that I think that the sub woofer is either inoperative or not getting its full power from the amp. The dealer told me that nothing was wrong but they agreed to take another look at it.

Do you think the sub woofer is blown, the amp is bad or are the Logic 7 systems on the 2010 C Class less are less in quality that the 2008 SLK L7 systems. It is not the acoustics of the saller vehicle thta makes the difference, the base in my SLK is stronger with the top down than this particular C Class is with the windows up.

Logic 7 is optional on the C and not worth the price when $400 max can retrofit 4 speakers that will sound as good as Logic 7 - though volume not as high but plenty loud.

Go to the settings and adjust the bass level, which may fix the issue, I’m satisfied with L7

2008 SLK 350
Logic 7 differences C vs SLK

Adjusting the bass and treble was the first thing that I tried but still the bass is far from what it should be. I am surprized because I am quite satisfied with the Logic 7 in my SLK 350.

Has anyone out there heard and compared Logic 7 's in both C and SLK class vehicles?

Best way ask the dealer to compare side by side the L7 from another C

SLK has a 2nd sub and the cabin is smaller. Definitely depends on the quality fon the music you are playing. On high quality music the HK7 system in my C BUMPS! the 2010 HK system is different in the C than previous years as well. Different sub I believe.

Hi. I also have a C300 without the L7 option. Initially I had the same response as you did. I thought the bass lacking. I recently swapped out my speakers with Infinity Kappas. I must say the sound is great but I still think the bass is lacking a little bit. However, when my ipod plays high quality music, the bass sounds amazing.

In short, try playing high quality music. If it still does not sound great, look into installing a bass. I personally would like enjoy all the non high quality music I have but I'm not sure how to fix this without installing a bass.

I have not adjusted the equalizer yet. If anyone has suggestions on settings for this to boost bass, it would be appreciated.

Anytime to go to test drive a car, I always take a good Jazz Cd with me, as a test of the sterio. If it can produced the range, then it worthy. But I have to say that the bass in my 2010 C63, is not lacking in my opinon. I play a variety of different music, and hip hop doesn't display any lack of bass. I'm think that either the Logic 7 was not turned on, or either the bass wasn't turned up.

My parents have a 2011 SLK and I would say that the difference in bass is due to acoustic properties of the differing cabin sizes. I will say that when I first got the C class I was very impressed with the bass. The SLK seems to sound good too, The main difference is feeling like the speakers are right behind your head in the SLK vs a few feet back in the C.

They both seem comparable to me??

I have the HK logic 7 and i think it sounds great compared to w/o it.
you have to set it up in the "sound' menu, turn up the bass & treble.
Make sure that Logic 7 is turned on too.

I too also have The HK L7 pkg and the bass is just not there. The L7 Sub is better than stock and adds just a little more bass than stock, but at high level output just doesn't cut it. I added a 12" Shallow mount sub in the trunk (so not to lose too much trunk space). Made a world of difference! Now it sounds as what I imagined... Amazing!

Any pics of your sub install? 3 years and I still haven't done anything with it.

Thank you all for the helpful replies.

After the dealer service department took another look at it they determined that the software was not properly loaded from the very beginning of the vehicles life. They admitted that it wasn't right and did a software update. I checked it out last night, they had completely fixed it. The system now sounds somewhat different than my SLK but probably about as good now.

I did not hesitate I bought the car, I pick it up today.

Thanks again
