ANOTHER major mechanical issue FML

Sorry to bother again about yet ANOTHER mechanical issue...

So basically, two things that have been happening with my car:

-while I'm driving, the speedometer will sometimes randomly drop to 0 and then jump back up. That happens most of the time but there have been many times when ALL the gauges drop to 0 as if the car was off. This always happens when I'm just cruising but the throttle doesn't die and I can still give it gas. It happened when I was driving at 60 mph so imagine how I almost ***** my pants when I saw it.

-and issue number 2 which I'm sure is related is that my car is having a lot of trouble starting. The other night, when I left my friends house my car wouldn't start at all. I knew it wasn't the battery because the lights were fine (no dimming) and there was no click when the key was turned. When i turned the key, ABSOLUTELY nothing happened. No sound or anything.

So WTF is going on. I feel like my car is dying and it just so happens that it begins after by 50,000 mile warranty... It's getting extremely annoying and these things should not be happening. Any input would be greatly appreciated

the first issue is weird, but the second is common and known.

That second issue happened to me recently as well. What is the solution?

I believe you can get your entire ignition changed out with new keys and everything. But its hard to prove since you often cant reproduce it

Wow it seems I'm not the only one.. What could it be though cause I can't see how faulty ignition can cause issue 1.

hmm issue number one is just plain wierd and scary at the same time lol For the second issue its probably the starter or spark plugs or something like that. Could be wrong though..

Yeah, I know what you mean about the spark plugs and such but I feel if that is the case, it is extremely coincidental that issue 1 is happening at the same exact time lol. Either way, this car is really starting to kill me

The issue #2 happened to me two times. My car was only 1 month old back then. I was a little bit worried, but it did not happen again as time goes by.

If these cars are anything like other cars, maybe your first problem is your Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) in the tranny. But since all the gauges turn off who knwos, its sounds like something electrical, not mechanical. Maybe theres some loose connection somewhere in your gauge cluster or its related to ur ignition problem. Like it thinks the key is out so it shuts off all the gauges.

how did you get your car started at ur friends house? Sometimes i turn the key and nothing happens and i just turn it back to the off position and turn it to start again.

It seems as if MB like the other " germen " cars have it's own electrical issues from time to time ?? I've had numerous issues with the alarm and lights one day then would disappear the next ?? Kinda scarey to think if it's not under warranty and the service department needs to replace an entire unit .... how much $$$ is that gonna cost yikess

Good luck and hopefully it was simply a " fluke " and a one time occurance ??

Yeah, I guess it's something electrical. I'm gonna bring it to MB this week and pray that they don't charge me out the ***. When I was at my friends house I tried it 2-3 times and it didn't work so I went inside to warm up since I was freezing. 5 minutes later, walked back outside to give it one more try and it turned on no problem

Yeah but it's been almost a week and it still is like this from time to time. It's really random too so I can never expect it. Honestly, I doubt that MB will not charge me an arm and a leg -_- I have had the worst luck this winter with the car. Just yesterday I destroyed my front rim on a pothole and now I need to get a new rim. Sighhhhh, and I wonder where all my money goes too

Do you mean your warranty has expired? Confusing wording..

If not, it's a warranty claim and the dealer will fix it.

BTW, it's an electrical problem and has nothing to do with spark plugs or the rear door handles.

dang that sucks, have you at least tried checking your neg, battery terminal. Alot of times lights can still work on a car, but the moment you go to put it under heavy load like starting it, that connection could go out. Loose battery terminal connection could do that, ive seen that before. Check if its moving around.
