When I bring my local MB dealer hard earned money, I'm going to request a car that was built in Sindelfingen or Bremen, GERMANY.
What's all this nonsense about Mexico, Brazil, or South Africa? I can't believe some of you guys on here that are so passionate about this brand would accept anything besides DAS BESTE (oder nichts)

From a couple of years in a few fora, and a lifetime experience with them, I am a firm believer that German made MB are a breed apart. There is a saying I heard more than once that you get a Mercedes without problems for the first year, and you get a Mercedes good for life -when properly maintained, of course-. And I noticed that it should be added: the lowest price Mercedes are not created equal to the big-ticket boys.
So there is a niche for the foreign plants. As for foreign quality, it is directly related to local needs for doing business. But trucks, tractors, and buses are made in a more uniform quality in different locales than private cars, which proves that market and competition control what comes out of the manufacturing plants.
In any event, if you come across parts made in Brazil, think three times before purchasing them (at any price, and Bosch in particular).

Very true. Mine (2008) was made in Bremen my brothers (2009) in SA. I have checked his out and I see no difference, actually his has been in the shop for problems less times than mine.

Yea I've had ZERO probs with my SA build 09'. I guess people who care THAT much about this topic wouldn't drive an ML or GL... right? Since they are made in good ole' Alabama!
