DIY to non MM questions

Hi all,

I had several questions about adding functions to a non MM unit.

If one wants to add backup cams and remote mount navigations, is it possible to do so on a non MM?

Is the screen the only thing that is preventing these additions or does the Head Unit have something to do with it? If one were to get an after market screen, would it work?

What back up cam system and navigation would one recommend?

Thanks all.

Some Audio20 headunits were MM ready and would accept the MB UMI interface. Your MB dealer can tell you if your particular 2010 C300 is one of these by giving the VIN number and asking if it is UMI Interface compatible.
These newer Audio20's should be able to accept and display the input from a videocam, although splicing the wiring harness is a bit complex. How one asks the unit to display the video on the 5 inch dash display, is another question (I dont know that answer).

Hey Bill,
Check out www.navmodul.com.
Currently they have a 6.1 screen that fits in the OEM slot with a higher resolution and touch screen capability. Next month, they are coming out with the new bigger screen as seen on their front page. I was wondering if I switched the screen out to either one of those, if it was possible to add GPS that would be integrated into the system rather than a TomTom or Garmin or UMI. There are 'remote management' GPS out there that supposedly integrate into existing screens on other cars, but I just don't know if it is something you just plug into the screen or if it's something that has to be hooked up to the Audio 20.

Thanks for the info, jl9j!! As Post #2 says, a first step would be to give your VIN number to your MB dealer and ask if it will accept the UMI Interface. If so, these I understand ARE MM ready, amd may accept some of the aftermarket devices navmodul offers.
