I'll replace it if it is 100% covered by your insurance. Repair it if it's out of your pocket cost.

Another consideration is diminished value. If the repair (however it is accomplished) is detectable, the next owner is going to pay less for the car. If it's leased, the leasing company is going require you to bring it up to standard (if they spot it) and if you trade it later, the used car manager will lower the amount he offers since he is going to have to spend money on it before he can put it on the lot. And don't think you can sneak it by because these guys look at cars all day long and can spot a defect in a moment.
