4 spoke steering wheel?
4 spoke steering wheel?
Hi all,
I have a 2010 C300 bought in the US. As you fellow C drivers know, it comes with a 3 spoke steering wheel. I thought the only 4 spokes were the AMG steering wheels with paddle shifters. Since I bought a MT (only way to drive!), I didn't think it would be possible to swap out the 3 spoke to a 4 spoke steering wheel.
However, I saw this.

As you can see, this C class seems to come with a 4 spoke steering wheel wihtout paddle shifters.
Anyone have any idea if it's possible to obtian one of these and swap it out? Any idea on the cost?

Four spoke wheels in the US are found on Luxury models, or Sport models with a tan interior. MB didn't like a black 3 spoke Sport wheel in a tan interior, but there was not enough volume to justify a 3 spoke tan wheel. You can change the wheel, but the air bag hub is not interchangeable between the 3 and 4 spoke wheels...different shapes. And, that is where it can become expensive, as the air bag replacement is about $600-$700.
I found an outstanding aftermarket wheel:

which allowed me to reuse the airbag, but I was staying within the 3 spoke design. If you, for some reason, love the original equipment 4 spoke, you might ask if any Luxury owners in your area want to trade. If you both show up at a dealer at the same time (or other competent technical service location), the actual job would be about 20 minutes for both cars. Could be a win-win.
Agree on the transmission...welcome kindred spirit!

Although, I would KILL to get a 2012 steering wheel. I wonder if that's possible.

I though 4-spoke wheel is on Luxury model only, not on Sport model no matter what color. 2011 brochure indicates that. Am I wrong? I like 4-spoke better but I don't have a choice.
I still think there is an opportunity for the OP to find someone here who lives near him who would really like to swap for a 3 spoke wheel on their Lux model.

I remember my dealer said if I order from factory, I could select whatever I want to have. I am sure I can order whatever is in the brochure but not sure of other combinations not stated in the brochure, for example the 4-spoke wheel on Sport model in 2011.
