HID Fog or LED DRLs

HID Fog or LED DRLs
I just swapped my eyelids and side markers for Michael's LEDs and I really like the look, but now my fog lights don't match. I'm debating between swapping the fog lights for the HID kit, or swapping to the new LED strip. Has anyone else done this yet? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

HID fog light for me.
I prefer the functionality of my fog lights and keep my lowbeams as my primary DRLs.
Do you have 5000K or 8000K?

DRLs have some safety benefit (which outweighed their cost) from increasing vehicle conspicuity, as was demonstrated before Canada required them. However, when fog lights are needed, they really are needed! So, how does your risk assessment treat low frequency/high criticality needs?
P.S. I voted for the fog lights.

Our cars already have DRL, which is the eyelids. All you have to do is enable it in the lights menu. I really do like the fogs, the only reason I am thinking about the LED strip is to basically face lift my car up to the current model style.

OK...didn't know we could do that...in any event, newer isn't necessarily better! With LED strips now on cars from Kias to Chryslers, I guess you would do them only if you really like the "string of pearls" effect...certainly, no longer for distinctiveness/newness. I'd pass.

actually, turning on DRLs in the lights menu just sets the headlights to be on all the time regardless if you are on auto.
Id go for the DRLs...but only a handful of people have been able to do it. the cost is too high

I've been thinking the same thing since I did the side mirrors... It would be cool to have the LED in order to look like a brand new model. I have virtually no need for fog lights around here, and would really like to have the updated style of LEDs.
I just wish (like the ebay mirror conversions) that there was an aftermarket replica LED DRL maker. that had a plug and play unit (LED+plastic surround insert)

Honestly, I like fogs. I'd just go HID fogs imo. They both serve different functionality, the merit of which can be debatable by region, but stylistically, it's up to you.

on my 2008 i added a strip of "side shining" LED's powered via the side markers, so when you looked from the front you could not really tell where the strip was located. I thought they looked nice however they were a bit on the blue side. I also changed the fogs to HID.
Now with the 2011 I actually miss having that extra bright light that the fogs provide, the led is for looks vs practical.
you could always go with the Carlson led fog combo? http://www.kunzmann.de/shop/en/tunin...mg-styling.htm

I'm just tired of looking at my broken fog light cover...
LED DRL's are major $$$ though... and will probably require you to fabricate mounts, mesh surrounds, etc..

OK, So I'm going to try out a pair of Philips X-treme Power bulbs, and hopefully they'll look right. If not, I'm thinking to try out the OSRAM Cool Blue Hyper 5000K bulbs.. though I'm no big fan of the tinted bulbs.

@ the person who said they are tired of looking at broken foglights housings... Have you ever tried Lamin-X? The halogen lights burn the films after about a year of use, but if you change to 35W HID they won't. I haven't even had burning on my 55w HID in my lowbeams on my lamin-x.

There's only one company that sells those, and Philips doesn't even acknowledgethat product line exists, so I'm suspect. Philips says the max energy is their brightest, but if that looks stupid, than Osram (Sylvania) makes the next best bulb I think.
