Service A

Hey all,

My car is telling me i have 20 days until service A. However, I have only 5500 miles on it. Do I really need to take it in for a service A?

If its been a year then that will trigger the service A light. Its not just the mileage.

Guess I'm askimg if it is worth it. Seems like oil change is only thing but that can be done at 10k mile so...ignore the service A?

What he said plus the dealer will know as the indicator will stay on after its due it will say 1 day past due, 2 days past due, 30 days past due. etc... Service A does not cost much...

Prime example as to why I buy new and not used...

Performing your own oil change will not void your warranty. There are many good guides on this forum on how to properly do it. Keep your receipts and document what you did.

Hey guys, I did not even think about changing my own oil. I was simply saying that I only have 5000 some miles and I could wait to change my oil until 10000miles. Am I wrong? Also, the car telling me it's x days past service A is annoying so I might just get it done now.

Correct me if i'm wrong guys but I believe our cars need to be serviced once every 10k miles or once a yr, which ever comes first. It is not determined by the mileage alone. Failing to do so may void your warranty.

You can do your own maintenance and NOT void your warranty however it would be wise to keep receipts of your oil purchase, filters, etc and follow the owners manual as to what each service MB says is required at the necessary stage of your cars life that way if you do need warranty coverage you can show the dealer your records. However failing to keep track of service records could potentially void your warranty or could make your claim more difficult as I've heard horror stories. So if you do do your own maintenance - keep records.

Also someone else may know more but doing the maintenance won't actually remove the service light indicator. To reset the trigger you can either take to dealer or I THINK an autozone or some other car spot can reset it for you but I am not 100% on this soemone on the these forums who does their own maintenace will probable known the way to reset the service indicator. But I don't believe it will auto reset just because you pop the oil cap.
