Some kind of film is peeling off the leather on the center console...
I noticed today that on the arm rest of the center console there was a smudge. I proceded to rub it out with some wipes and it turned out that it was some kind of coating on the leather starting to peel. The more I started rubbing it out, the more it peeled, and now it looks like a total disaster. ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
What is this coating?
Is it normal that it peeled?
Can it be reapplied? If so, how?
Is it something I can do myself?
If I have to get it done professionally or at the dealer, how much would it cost?
Is this damage permanent?
What if I were to rub it completely out, will anything happen to the leather?

Im pretty sure only the seats are leather in the leather ordererd cars, everything is MBtex type basically vinyl, sometimes called leatherette. If your out of warrany start looking on ebay for a wrecked w203 or interior parts, they are on there all the time. If you cant install take it to a body shop for an estimate first then try the dealer. I bet thats a few hundred from dealer, I had my cupholder trim changed twice under warranty and the stupid trim ring was 60 bucks prob cost $1 dollar in china or wherever
