Are these DRL in sync to go off when the windshield wipers are on? Or was it just a coincidence. I still have yet to try it again, because it hasn't rained here in a while.
The system will turn your low beams on whenever the windshield sensor has detected rain for any good length of time.

Not directing this comment at anyone specific, but: If you are looking for ways of turning your auto-lights off when it's raining out, you're breaking the law and endangering other people on the road.

my car PFL came with auto light too (2011)
i do sometimes use L R method to turn off headlight and DRL and whenever i forgot to turn it back to auto , it will have alarm when ignition off

For me will be always auto for convenient but i do care about those headlight
on when i'm in tunnel for few minutes. especially when there is front car might be wondering i'm doing some flash

Good points about that windshield wipers
i do notice my headlights turn on after certain wipers movement

In many countries in Europe including my home country its mandatory to have headlights on day or night.

Thanks - I will try this!

Actually, I want to be courteous. Like I pull up to the health club with glass windows at night and don't want the headlights blinding someone inside on a treadmill!

Yes. Just set it to either R or L side on the P and it will turn off the lights. When the car is off though make sure to set it back to auto or the L or R parking lamp will come on.

Auto Head Lights.

I think the 'Off' position for headlamps stopped after 2010. I have a 2012 CLS550 and there is no 'Off' position for the headlamps.Using the R/L parking(or standing lamp) is effective. These standing lamps are a European thing. When you are parked on the street, you turn on the parking lamp that is on the street side of the car

I am having an issue with my blue tooth connectivity; have a Blackberry Z10. It is on the MB approved list. It pairs, authorizes and works just fine..until..I turn the car off. On restart, the car cannot 'find' the phone again and I have to deauthorize and repeat the process each time..never had this issue with my 2010..did something with the BT change in the re-engineering process because 2012 was the year the CLS550 got a "facelift". Anyone have any ideas ?

The number of drivers I see on the highway at night without headlights is far too high. It is VERY dangerous as well. As I can't see them really when merging into lanes.

I'm glad auto headlights exist and there is direct off setting in my car. There is no risk of ever being in a position to compromise safety.

PA law is that headlights have to be on during sunrise and sunset so I left the Auto setting determine this. It seems to work very well.

It looks like a number of us would like to find out if there is a solution here. There are legitimate reasons for wanting the headlights off even if the sensor demands that they are on.

Has anyone bypassed the sensor with a resistor?

Is this true, and if so could a 2010 headlight switch be retro fitted on a 2011?

I'm one of those who wants his lights to stay off during the day. The very first thing I did with my car was to disable the DRLs, but then I discovered that if I drive under trees on a sunny day, the headlights come on! Every time I pull into my garage, the *&$! lights come on. I'll have to try the side-light trick, since MB thinks I'm too stupid to determine when it's dark.

Side note- one of the primary reasons for automatic headlights is DRLs. In most early cars equipped with those stupid things, the high beam headlights would illuminate (at 80% power), and because of that, people who shouldn't have driver's licenses anyway thought their headlights were on and drove around in the dark with no taillights. Putting a Band-Aid on a broken arm, the manufacturers added idiot-proof automatic headlights to protect the boneheads from themselves.

Raising the dead....

So is there a way to remap the wiring via the computer? VW has VAGCOM and you can go in and change things around when it comes to lights etc. does MB have anything like this?

id like change some things with my DRLs and add them as a front fog light so I can turn them on or off or run them with my parking lights on.

Also are the pre facelift light switches compatible with the face lift cars?
