blacked out my housings
So I decided to go ahead and do this DIY. I was just looking for the right days off in case something happened. Started just taking off the headlight and bumper off last night. Ended up taping and painting the whole day. I also painted my fog trim chrome with Plasti-Dip and decided to replace my yellow Lamin-x with yellow stained glass (as xxHotelCrazyxx did with his). I put on the clear Lamin-x on top so I wouldn't have any trouble with rocks/debris breaking the glass while driving. As well as all that, I had some 3000k HID installed in the fog lights. It wasn't so hard. Only time consuming part was taping things up, PIA. Well on to the pictures.

Bumper off. Don't think this is needed if you're just doing the headlights. I had it off for the HID fogs.

Now we're cookin'
About 10 minutes in the oven at 200F

Unlike most of the other DIY on the forum. I decided to leave these for the OEM look.

![](http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa125/nguyenl4o8/7.jpg)
Also decided to leave the reflector for my HIGH beam and signal. Also for that OEM look and function.

Final results.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Didn't get a chance for pictures as it got dark. I will get some pictures tomorrow.
For those of you who decides to do this as well. I suggest getting some low adhesive painters tape or at least put light pressure. The tape decided to peel off some of the chrome off the high beam reflector (not like I really use high beam) as well as my driver side low beam reflector. Now when I turn on the lights, there's just a small spot that isn't lit because of that
I'll probably repaint those parts chrome later along the line.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Great job!
Looks very good with the OEM look. I still find the functionality in using high beams and turn signals to be important :P
Now if only I had time to do mine...

It looks GREAT!!!! Now let me know if water starts to get in or there is condensation inside? But overall Good Job and hopefully everything came out fine.

What did you do to re-seal it? And how hard was it to pull it apart after you cooked it?
Also what paint did you use?
Between your black out grill and housings, it looks great!!!

@ tanktube Thanks! Not much of a write up though.
@blue00r6 Very easy. Once I had everything painted and ready, I put the headlights together as tight as I could and let it sit in the oven @ 200 for another 7-10 minutes. Afterwards, I just forced them together again as much as I could with the sealant that was already on there. You could use more sealant, but from what was on there it'll be enough.
@snarlingchicken Thanks!
Yea I wanted the functionality and I thought the DIYers on the forums who painted them were too dark for my taste.
@boris Thanks, I love this mod. As I posted, using a strong adhesive tape or applying too much pressure on the chrome parts when taping things off will most likely peal some off causing it to have the chip look. That's probably the worst thing. I will post updates now and then how they hold up. They should be good.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
@doworklax I just put them together once I was finished. Put it in the oven again for 7-10minutes or hot enough for the adhesive so you could push them together. After the adhesive softens up, its real easy to take apart the housing and lens. Just use a screwdriver (didn't break anything) to take them apart or just enough so you can use your hands. I didn't use any high temp paint. I used krylon fusion in satin black. I did however use high temp clear coat I believe by duplicolor (it was for engine). And thanks, I love how they came out.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
@Sentosa Wanted to see if anybody makes some AMBER LEDs for the front, but so far no luck. Probably get a set later.
@Nuru Thanks![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
@Blazeitup Probably take 2 days at most. You can probably squeeze out the headlights without scratching up anything without taking off the bumper.
Just took some pictures.

So its been about a little more than 2 weeks since I've done the DIY. Headlight is holding up fine so far. There are no signs of condensation at all. ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Its been through 2 car washes, 1 of which was just about an hour or so. On to the pictures.

Very nice. When I have done this on previous cars I used a heat gun when I was putting them together after using fabric strips tied around the lights to hold them together. I tightened as I heated to make sure the seal was all the way together. Then when they were cooled off I used some clear silicon on the back side of the seal just for good measure. No water inside in 6 years or use after. The high temp paint is just good insurance. Looks great loonie.

Thanks guys. I'm loving it. Tints I will hold off for now. Saving up for some wheels. Yea I was gonna go high temp paint but I read a lot of DIY and I didn't really think it was necessary. I'll keep you guys posted about another 2 weeks or so.
