That was a great car- wht, pano, 18" AMG rims, PP2.
Mileage appears to be a wee bit better than my W203, and the tank seems to be bigger as well. The W203 would give me 280-300 miles per tank on average, 320 if I babied it, and close to 350 if I went all highway on a long drive (I only got that much two or three times).
Also, the W204 has cost about 7-10 bucks more per fill compared to the W203. It appears the W204 is marginally better on fuel economy (mpg) than the W203.
For what it's worth: Upon filling the tank on my W203, the range normally displayed was 350 miles; on my W204, the range reads around 420 or 430 (can't remember for sure). I often wonder if that's meant to be MB's expected average from a full tank, or their perceived max.
Hope this was helpful.
As for the claims about 3-series efficiency, with two in the family the MPG is no better or worse than the C300. It all depends on your FOOT. Unless I am changing tunes on the iPod, I always leave the display on the fuel computer "from start", as you can monitor the average fuel consumption depending on your driving and the conditions.
As far as the break in procedure. Mercedes recommends to keep it under 5k rpm for the first 1,000 miles and to be driving at varying RPM's (as in not at a constant RPM for the whole 1,000 miles like highway).
However, there is a big following of people who argue the opposite, and that in order to get proper seal of piston rings and valve-train components, an engine should be put under loads (perhaps not as extreme as WOT, but over 5,000rpm) a few times towards the end of the break in period (750-1000 miles). But who really knows what is right or wrong, there are always two sides to every story.
