paint grille

im trying to paint my grille black, I did a search and seems like most people leave the chrome part as it, I am just wondering if I can paint the whole grill black like the tutorial showed? or the chrome part cannot be painted?

+1 on plasti-dip. Since you're gonna paint it yourself.

Or you could trade that one with someone who has a stock grill.

If you paint the chrome with regular paint not plastidip you must strip the chrome from the plastic before prime and paint as the paint will not adhere well to the chrome. Best choice is to let a body shop do it rattle can jobs don't always come out well.

the trick is to really prep the whole grille well. You have to scuff the chrome and the whole grille. Should take u some time, like a half hour to do. Then when u paint it you need to get multiple coats on it, light coats are preferred for no runs or stuck spots. Then clear once tacked over, same thing a few light coats. If possible put in the sun or someplace warm to dry, the baking of paint in a body shop booth is what does the trick in hardening. Its still soft after painting, take weeks to fully cure. Careful reinstalling it. There are lots of black grilles on ebay that are manufactured that way not painted, its probably easier to just spend 150 on a new grill, that way ur OEM is safe for trade or whatever, the OEM is worth alot more than the aftermarket grille costs

my fist grill attempt didn't last too long. rocks chipped away the black paint exposing chrome. ugly. plasti dip lasted longer, but i slacked on the prep and looked like garbage up close.

all said and done i'm happy with my chinese c63 matte black replica.

Just vinyl wrap the chrome. Easy, removeable, and if it ever chips, just wrap that one section again. Plus the chrome strips are a pain to take off.

some c63 grills have a ~1in gap at the top. can't say about this exact one, but i just bought 1 and the pic in the was a tight gap. not so when i un-boxed. not really mad about it, it doesn't really bother me.

edit: you can see what i'm talking about when you scroll down. first pic is good on the white car, but black has the gap.
