Ash tray delete?

Anyone come up with an aftermarket product to put in place of the ash tray? It's holding change now, but was thinking about some sort of phone holder.

Lol, +1 w/ the change.

I think it's a cruddy place for a phone holder simply because you will have to take your eyes ALL the way down and away from the road to give attention to something that already causes so many accidents...

If you are hooked up with bluetooth you can just keep your phone in your pocket while you drive!! But then again mine still finds its way to the cup holder every day....

I would try EPCnet. I was able to purchase the OEM ashtray delete and swap out the entire ashtray for storage in my W203.

Keep mine in the culminate but sometimes it makes it's way between my legs when I got two drinks . If you have a rubber case it stats in place where the speedometer is .

It comes with an ashtray delete. Just pull out the ash tray and you will see it. My ashtray is in the storage cubby and I leave a coiled iphone charging cable + charger where the ashtray used to be.

I use mine as a mini garbage can, for gum wrappers, receipts, small stuff like that.

Never even opened mine on the '11. Opened it once on the '08 to run a tire compressor.

I have two ID badges for work and in my '06 ML500 I had a sliding tray that I could keep them in - it was very convenient. I didn't realize that the ash tray will come out of my '08 so I will try it when I leave tonight. Although I am not hopeful as I removed the ashtray in my '05 C230 and the badges didn't fit. It seems crazy but the badges are the most important part of my day.

I am sure some people have installed a false panel and fitted it with aux switches or ports; things of that nature. Perhaps if I didn't have an iPod connection in my glove box I would consider rigging an aux port for music and perhaps even charging - I have an iPhone.

I don't know just a few thoughts on what to do with the area.

Be careful keeping change in the ashtray - sometimes the coins get caught in the spring in the retractable lid and then it wont close or even worse, break. MB dealer replaced mine under warranty but advised NOT to keep change there. The best place is in the drivers side center armrest, in the rubber holder the size of a cigarette pack.

The rubber holder is where I keep my business cards.. I try not to carry change - in the odd event that I have some, it goes in the general armrest console, or in the door storage space - doesn't rattle much since it's carpeted.

My iPhone 4 sits nicely and visibly in the tray horizintally when the lid is open, great if you are using it for GPS navigation. The cig lighter is handy as a USB charger.

Keeping anything small and loose in the tray makes it noisy, unless you line it with fabric or rubber.

Here's the part information for the ashtray delete similar to what I did on my W203. (attached PDF)

You're swapping out the ashtray and lighter for a rubber lined tray and 12v socket.

301 is the ashtray option. -301 are the parts to delete it.

That part is already included in the car. Just pull out the ashtray and the rubber part is underneath.

I checked my 2010 and there is no rubber part underneath, just a space roughly the size of the ashtray and a no cigarette warning. With my W203 the entire assembly is different and the space is about 2x the size of just removing the ashtray. I suspect this is also the case for the W204.

In the case of my sedan 204[054] the assembly is part number 204 680 13 50, which is different than the ashtray assembly fitted 204 680 01 79. Then you need 000 820 49 51 to have the 12v socket instead of lighter - which is basically the same thing - just remove the lighter although you won't have the springy lid.

I'm at the dealer tomorrow to program the PML option 213 on my C55 and will check prices and availability.

One of my friends put his sub/bass controller in the ashtray area. Required a little modification but actually fit perfectly. Looks pretty oem and nice and concealed when its shut.

Something along the lines of this:

As far as food for thought, would be pretty "neat" to have someone utilize the car charger port in the glovebox and connect it to an inverter and wire the inverter output to have a "plug" in the ashtray for the two prong bit.

204 680 13 50 = $58.00

000 820 49 51 = $27.00

list prices.

Can the car be ordered new with it already deleted and with the 12v socket?

I have yet to see it possible for the US market. The option possibilities for the EU cars far exceed ours. At least we can get the parts and make some of the changes.
