Installing RearView Camera on 2012 C Class

Strip the camera down to just the basic cube and cut the cable about 30cm from the camera. Drill a small hole that the camera cable will fit through inside the top corner of the trunk handle. Feed the camera cable through the hole from the outside, reconnect the cable (when you strip the insulation off there's only three wires to connect) and you're almost done. Use some 3M double sided tape or your imagination and you should be able to secure the camera at the correct angle inside the trunk handle on one side. Result central location for camera and twin led's retained.

This was my first choice but I told myself I will try the $19 camera first and if that didn't work I will go with this. In the end I loved the el-cheapo cam.

Why go all the trouble in gluing things down and just get this one instead:

I ordered a different camera
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121150021490...84.m1497.l2649
It metal and a sony CCD. 520 TVL.
I haven't installed yet, but i Plan on drilling a hole in the mounting plate used for the factory camera and mounting there. It'll allow both LED backup lights to remain. Hopefully I have time to put it in this weekend.

At least I know it has already been done and works.

Looks like the same camera I got (This is from vietnam). I know someone else used the same camera in France.

It doesn't really seem to critical other than you want one that is NTSC for the US. For my2012+ the light replacement ones don't work so hot so might as well consider the other options.

hey guys... just wondering, but why doesn't anyone just use 3m double sided tape instead of going through the somewhat difficult mounting process with drilling and brackets? these cameras are extremely light, so they won't go anywhere with that tape.
i personally prefer the handle camera, but i'm not sure if it fits my 2009. are the trunks the same?

It seems it already sticks out as is.

I did not realize i'd be drilling through a replaceable plastic piece. I thought you guys were drilling through trunk metal!
I use an ebay trunk handle camera on my e92 and it was a cinch to install, so i'm hoping i can do the same with the w204. the great part is that it's only an inch or two off center.

I finally installed my backup camera and unfortunately I only have the left side LED license plate working (with the right side LED removed bcuz of the camera). Another issue is, sometimes I get a unclear-scrolling screen on my display when the engine is ON and I'm in reverse. When the engine is off and I put it in reverse the display of the backup camera looks fine.
I checked all connections and I made sure the RCA connections are insulated from touching any bare metal. I grounded the black wire to the existing ground screws in the passenger side trunk and I used the passenger side tail light connector to hook up the power to the reverse light. I also went into the engineering menu and added the reverse camera. Does anybody know why this might be?

You didn't need to go anywhere near the lights to get power, all you need to do is us an "add a fuse" and connect to fuse 71 in the rear fuse box. It is, if you like, a purer source of power for the camera.

What size fuses did you use for the "add a fuse"? Slot 71 is a 15 and that would go into slot 1 in the "add a fuse" but what about slot 2?

Slot 1 is the powers the ciggetette lighters and slot 2 powers the camera. Or the other way around... Either way I added another 15 fuse and it works great.

Hi everybody! Need help it terms of this topic!
Hi!
Still can't find a solution, here is a story (it's all about w204 c-classs 2011 factory equipped with Conamd NTG 4.5 Online, but i'm sure the solution are common for SLK, e-class, c-class):
1. I've just connected my non original but still good cam to my Comand Online NTG 4.5
2. I've powered it from right rear movement light - i took the grount there also; and the anod activating wire was also connected to +12
3. After it i managed to go through the salon to my Comand and connected the video to the jack #6, the right one as showed
4. Then i entered an engineering menu and made my selection as showed
5. And also i checket this - "'External video display' (in the HU parameter menu), 'Front monitor', 'RVC'", it was NTSC so a guess it's all right isn't it? I got an NTSC cam...
6. After reseting system (off, then off the car, lock, stay for 5 minutes) i saw a new point in menu "Rear view camera" and it was already switched on "Activate on R-movement".
7. And, at the and of this all when i first made an reverse gear i saw a blank black screen with "Check for surrondings" and a back button.
What did a do wrong?? Please help ASAP, can't sleep! :-)))

I think I replied to one of your other 3 posts. You're using the wrong FAKRA input. You said you used the 2nd green FAKRA Connextion on the right. It's the first (left) FAKRA connection. And ^^^^ he is correct about add Fuse #71. Tapping in to reverse light will just cause Unstable electricity to camera. I've read plenty post with problems where people tapped into power or a "switch" to the reverse camera light.

By the way:
- i took the photo with a wrong FACRA somewhere around, look - https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...android-4.html
- and i still thinks it's ok to use a reverse light because in my case i'm using a special output relay (sorry, forgot to mention it) and all my wires comes through this relay - so i think that's not a problem!
Thank you for your cooperation!
P.S. Our Russian forums sucks - no one knows nothing!

Following your advice i changed a facra to the one on the left side - the result is obvious! I saw a picture! I rejoiced but much too early - the picture started to blink, then some horizontal gray bars appeared, and then black screen again.
When the time passed (3-5 minutes) the situation happened again - the picture and then blinking and then - black.
Few questions:
1.Can it be because the connection was made to the reverse light? I hoped that because of relay it can be made this way... but it's not?
Or, may be it happes because the anode and +12 are twisted together and linked to "+12" of the reverse light?
Should i detach an anode and leave only +12 AC connected?
2. I know my got an integrated parking lines (static ones). There is a small green wire and it's said in the manual that i must cut it if i don't want this lines - so guess they are enabled by default. But i can't see them in moment the camera works!
Should a make some changes in Comand NTG 4.5 Online to enable them? Or, as i heard - there are some factory lines sewn in Comand and i can activate them!
Do you know - what's the solution?
Thanks in advance for your answer!

Do not use the reversing light, the power from fuse 71 is, for want of a better expression, a purer source and less likely to upset the head unit.
