Angry NavTeq maps and Command Navigation System

I have noticed that the navigation display of the Command Center shows a few street names, if any. Is this a function of the MBZ navigation software or is it part of the NavTeq map? If it is part of the MBZ software, then an urgent upgrade seems in order. Where can I find out which version of the Command Center operating system is installed in my vehicle?

Other implementations, i.e. in Audi, BMW, Jeep, Lexus, etc. are far superior to the one by MBZ. This shortcoming should be addressed by the folks in Stuttgart.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's the NavTeq mapping. That's why when you pay the exorbitant fee for an update disc a few more roads appear.

NavTeq supplies the same map data to the aforementioned Audi, BMW, and Jeep. Not Lexus. The maps are only a database to be used by the application software. It is up to the application to decide how to use and display the data contained in the map database, so the problem is definitely in the Comand software.

Don

My 2005 CL COMAND shows every single street name when zoomed in so they can fit on the screen. When zoomed out, they of course reduce the clutter by removing names of smaller roads…. I like that feature, as some mapping systems are so cluttered that they are distracting.

You can also choose whether what you'd like to see on the bar at the bottom of the screen: by default, if I recall correctly, it shows nothing. You can set it to always show the street name, or you can set it to show destination information (time and distance to go).
