Wheels/rims and mods on PRE-SAFE BRAKE/DISTRONIC PLUS?

Hi guys

My C250 CDI (facelift w204) has the safety pack which includes radar cruise control (Distronic Plus) and pre-safe brake (i.e. it detects imminent crash and has autonomous braking). Is there anything I need to be aware of when modifying the rims/tyres, or the suspension?

I'm assuming the obvious answer is keep rolling diameter the same and I should be fine. The brochure quotes my car has the R70 rims with the following specifications:

18-inch 5 twin-spoke alloy wheels
F: 225/40 R18 on 7.5 J x 18
R: 255/35 R18 on 8.5 J x 18

I was looking at my local tyre shop at some of their replica rims (e.g. E63) > http://www.tempetyres.com.au/product...=&part_no=1515 and they look great, but they seem to come in 18 by 8.5/9.5 only. Same for the C63 rims > http://www.tempetyres.com.au/product...=&part_no=1459

Does that mean I can't use these? And if I do, I can't use my existing tyres which came with the car and haven't had much mileage yet?

Before I embarass myself, I don't really understand how the spacing works and whether a change in 7.5/8.5/etc means it will fit or won't.

(for anyone interested, they've quoted me $1400aud with KUMHO tyres fitted, or $2200aud with Pirellis)

Read the sticky called "all you wanted to know about rims and tires at the top

Pre safe and cruise has NOTHING to do with your wheel size ect. If you get new wheels you need to have the sensors re synched on the new wheels and tires, and they break easy. MB puts aftermarket rims on at the dealer all day

Thanks for that. I wonder how MB Australia is with updating the software/resyncing if I change my rims- I'm assuming it's just a software tweak.

Can you elaborate on 'break easy'?

they are plastic and most wheel flunkies pop them off and destroy the sensor, you need to let them know it has sensors

Ah I see. Thanks. I'll give my dealer/service center a call sometime and ask them what they can do regarding aftermarket rims and how much MB will charge to recalibrate the sensors.

Do you have any idea on pricing in US?
